The parent does have a moral choice for them and their family. To pull a kid out of school so they do not get an opposing viewpoint sounds to me a little harsh. These are parents who want to sheild their kids from reality.

It's typical Republican and Christian extremism. Should society really be brought up to hate gays and lesbians just like we tried to make society hate blacks. These damn Republicans want to deny civil rights to someone just because they're mentally different. I don't think it's acceptable for parents to teach their kids hate and to sheild them from reality. Let kids think for themselves!

I think it should be the parents choice but I don't see this behavior acceptable - I guess I'd just act differently as a parent.

Alright, this post made the "stupid post" alarm go off. I reset it, so don't do it again. :nono:

OK other people hate other people to. I just don't think preaching hate and covering the preaching of hate with a Christian label is acceptable. Jesus Christ would not have gone and preached hate so why do these "Christians."

And yes I targeted Republicans... The GOP is not conservative.

And no I do not have kids.

Why should we even have the argument that soomthing like this should not be taught in schools or kids should be taken out so they don't get an opposing viewpoint if parents have that option or the option to preach hate.

Now I'm gonna correct myself and say it's not attached exclusively to conservatives or Christians. It is hateful people throwing themselves behind a banner falsely advertising themselves as Christians.

Teaching kids to hate gays is different than teaching them that the gay lifestyle isn't normal. I know a few gay people and don't hate them at all but I don't believe the gay lifestyle is normal. Believe it or not, I have just as much right to think that way as you do to think it is normal.

If they want to teach "opposing viewpoints" then that should also include why Christians generally don't think the gay lifestyle is normal. That is another viewpoint that doesn't get taught in school.

I say leave the gay issues out of school. My kids are there to learn about reading, writing, math etc. Leave the social programming to the parents. You raise your kids, I'll raise mine. Isn't that the fair answer?

Did you read this part...
A collection of 'gay' organizations has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in a Massachusetts lawsuit, claiming they have every right to teach their doctrine to grade-school students.

Parental rights, according to the brief filed this week, "have never meant that a parent can demand prior notice and the right to opt a child out of mere exposure to ideas in the public schools that a parent disapproves of."

Why do you think they included this part in their brief?

Nobody "tried" to make society hate blacks. That was a precondition of society that people tried to remove....just like people hating homosexuality. Unfortunately, many people who are trying to change society don't know how to do it. The opinions of society (and I am talking about the prevailing opinions, not all-inclusive) cannot be legislated. The opinions of society cannot be positively affected in a short period of time (negatively is possible...just ask the Muslims). And you cannot change one opinion of society by doing something else that goes against the opinion of society (i.e. Gay Pride parades actually hurt the cause).

I think it's important for people to realize that their lifestyle is different and that their mentaility is different so they don't take an unfavorable opinion of gays in general.

Maybe we should teach Christianity.

I think the basics of every religion should be taught and what their message is ... This includes aethism. I think it's important that we know the background of this. For example, it would be nice if everybody knew the basics of Islam and what alQaida is "fighting for."

Fine, but I guarantee you that many of the people that are for homosexuality education would be opposed to religion education.

What kind of answer is that?

You're either too busy pushing your gay mantra or too dense to realize the point that was quoted in your reply and the brief.

What happens if we fill in the blank with conservatives, Christians, or Republicans?

Man oh Man...

I like a bunch of you guys.
You are articulate, clever, and know how to approach an issue from different angles.

The parental rights have been taking hits on the left coast and now from Massachusetts. No wonder almost 1/10 of America is Home schooling or private schooling.

We used to shiver at the old soviet style of education that involved taking toddlers from mothers and raising them in drab, propaganda brainwashed concrete institutions and tying red scarfs around their necks.
Now we shiver at liberal, socialist, amoral heavily funded and autocratically controlled dogmatically humanistic public schools showing middle school students how to put condoms on bananas and teaching 1st graders that moral perversion is perfectly normal------and parents are NOT to interfere.

My child will never take a class in a public school.

Amen, any good parent that really takes a look at what they are doing to the kids in school these days would want to consider an alternative. Ask the average public school kid to name all the countries in Asia. Ask one to tell you about a few of the presidents or explain what the War of 1812 was all about. Most will not know. They are only taught the politically correct version of history and what the liberals think they should know. Heck, ask them to give you change. Give them a $10 bill and tell them to give back all but $3.45. You'll confuse the heck out of most of them! They will know what 2 gay guys do in bed and how a condom is worn though! I guess they are learning something.

My 2 youngest have never been to public school. They are not perfect but they are very smart. I can't stand to watch some of the game shows with them like Jeopardy or Who wants to be a Millionaire, etc..............It's not unusual for them to know the answer.

Public schools are not the same schools you and I attended years ago.
