I posted in another thread that we visited Pittsburgh this past weekend. A really fantastic place. I had no idea. Just the amount of bridges over the rivers is fantastic in itself! October should be when the fall leaves are at their peak. I am sure it is beautiful at that time of year. Just a thought. Here are some info threads.

Edit: IMO, it is always better to spend your money in our country, not out of it.
Pittsburgh is pretty nice now, it was rough in the 80's. Most of the steel mills were closed or closing so a lot of people out of work but there was still enough mills open to make it stink. During the late 90's and early 2000's they really got their stuff together.
Who would ever guess that someone so average looking would be so profoundly, stupidly, and brazenly crazy.Yes, I read Pittsburgh's history on the way home with my trusty air card. Pittsburgh did a great job at changing their dynamics. It is my new favorite city, in case you haven't noticed. I would move there for retirement, but it is too far from my children to make it convenient. Great place. Go, Pittsburgh! Are you from that area, PE?
Edit: I am posting a pic at The Point in Pittsburgh where the 2 rivers make the Ohio River. That is me, mamakookoo, in the white pants (just so some can have the true image of what they deem the crazy lady ) and my hub, two of my brothers, their wives, and my hulking 6'4" nephew in the foreground that was our 'captain'. No one knows who we really are, so it can't hurt. Loved the trip.
I, also, found out that my nephew is renovating a house in Pittsburgh built in 1856. It is a huge job, but quite impressive. I am a history buff so the tour was awesome. My hub and I were trying to think on the way home who was prez at the time. I guessed Buchanan, but we had to look it up. I was right for once.

How many others have lifted and saved this photo?

We go in September, after Labor Day. Prices are really reasonable, not crowded with teenagers and college kids getting drunk and having parties all night. Water is still warm and the pools are practically empty. We stay at the Compass Cove, in the Mariner bldg. Highly recommend the two bedroom condo with the wrap around balcony.
Check out Bay View Resort. That's where my friend and I stayed last year and I can't recommend it highly enough. Most of the hotels put out great deals for the off season.
My vote is to do something fun and adventurous for one week, then switch and do something casual and relaxing the next.I have two weeks of vacation coming up in mid October.
Anyone have any good vacation spots
My interest are Beaches, Mountains, Outdoors, Gold Mining and just relaxing in general.
Thanks
The later you go after Labor Day the older the crowd gets.
I'm unsure of why this is, but I just had visions of "Blue Lagoon" flash before my eyes.No offense against the youngsters, but my days of "family vacations" are over. I wish I weren't all booked up for fall or I'd spend a week there laying on the beach while Monello fishes for our dinner.

October? Maine? Bring your boots, it'll be snowing up there by then.I'm being dragged to Maine in October for a family reunion. I better not need a coat.
Well, hubby is 64 and I'm 59, he still likes the bikini clad ladies and I don't scoff too much when I see a well formed sample of the male species. LOL. We usually go the week after labor day. The condo's at the Compass Cove are very nice, clean and come with the maid service. They have so many pools, hot tubs, lazy rivers and Jacuzzi's, you never feel crowded. I'm going to check out the place that Vrai was talking about though. Do you go to Murrells Inlet for dinner? We love Drunken Jacks.Ive been going every year for the past dozen or so, I love MB. Usually its the first day after Labor Day that we go. Prices drop down and we usually stay about 7-8 days. We hit a couple of the shows and eat very well at several of our favorite places to eat. Im a beach kind of person and I could relax all day out by the water. The later you go after Labor Day the older the crowd gets. The very first time we went it was first week in October, I said to the wife 'It feels like Senior Week and I dont mean High School'. Im getting to be old geezer myself (first year for Medicare) but I still like seeing some easy on the eyes sights at the beach and poolside if you know what I mean. lol
Nice picture.
