Alot of people confuse the Southern Md Veterinary Referal with the Waldorf Veternary Clinic. We used So. Md. Referal.

I went to the Southen Md. Vet Referral..it is an emergency vet and it is open 24 hours....walked in at 11:45 p.m...never had a referral. I don't know Dr. Fox, but the vet I had was awful. And like I mentioned earlier, the place was disgustingly dirty.

I used to work for them several years ago, I didn't stay long because they are so about the money. They don't care what happens to the animals that come in. Dr. Fox who owns the place, is a very mean and nasty person and the only animals he cares about are his own or his friends pets. The older doctor they had working there had so many complaints because he was so horrible, I really doubt he's still there now.

I had to take my lab to Annapolis late on a Sunday night because a stitch on her lower eyelid had ripped and was cutting her eye. It was expensive, but everyone there was wonderful and it is super clean. Cassie actually trotts into the vet wagging her tail because the folks at Dunkirk and Annapolis have been so good to her.

Well I am talking about the one where dr.fox is the guy who runs (owns) the place. THe one down the street from the DMV and on rockerfella court. Horrible place for the most part.
I do have one more story, I had a bird that had a cyst on it exploded, dr. fox was the doctor on duty that day, (I had to use my friends name, I didnt know if he had my name as a do not help person), dr. fox was semi concerned with my bird. He advised he thought the tumor (cyst) was cancer and he recommend I put him down. I did, only because I knew the surgery would not be the best option for my bird (I had already taken him to the vet when the cyst started developing and the doctor had explained that my bird probably wouldnt live through the surgery). But dr. fox must have told me at the very least 20 times that I should do a bioposy(sp?) to see if it was cancer as it seemed very unusal. I told him over and over no, not necessary, so after he had put my bird down, he came back to me and asked permission to do the testing for his own knowledge. He just wanted me to pay for his own nosey self. As it turned out, my bird did have cancer.

Dr. fox was walking with a cane this time, he said he was in an accident, so I dont know if that mellowed him out, but he did appear to be slightly different then the first time I went there. But I would not recommend him at all.

I also did not see a community water bowl.

I had to take my cat there last night after my dog attacked her. I admit, I was hesitant at first because of all the bad press I have heard about Dr. Fox but SoMd Referral Center is closer than Annapolis. Of course I had to call Annapolis first and they told me SoMd's number since I couldn't find it in the phone book.

I called to let them know that we were coming and when we arrived one receptionist was on the phone and the other was at the other computer. When they realized that I wasn't going to go away, they dealt with me. It took them 10 minutes to put my information into the computer just so they could turn around and give me a piece of paper requesting the same information I just gave.

When we were seen by a vet, I had Dr. Johnson. I liked her. She was very gentle with my cat and explained everything that would need to be done to fix Sizzle. She was even patient with my numerous questions.

When it came time to leave, I was informed that a deposit of $300 was needed for them to keep Sizzle for the night and to do the work. I wasn't to pleased with this since what they had done to that point wasn't anywhere near $300 worth of work. All they had done was an exam for crying out loud! I paid it though since it assured that my cat would get treated.

When I called the today to see if Sizzle was able to come home, they said yes but another $150 was due before I could take her home.

$450 for an exam, a couple stitches, some slight shaving, and watching for 18 hours. But, Sizzle will be healthy in two weeks and all of it could have been a lot worse.

I used to think that place was okay a few years ago but lately, they've really been disappointing and unempathetic and not to mention expensive for the crappy service. I used to like Dr. Fox there too but the past few experiences have not been very well at all. Unless its absolutely literally lifethreatening, then and only then will I consider bringing an animal there and it would have to be because its the only place open at the time and try my crap shoot odds.

Same here, That place is only worried about the almighty dollar. I've been there numerous times ONLY because it was the only option. There is no place like it in the area and they know it, hence the reason they are the way they are. Don't let their face to face customer service fool you, its behind the closed doors I don't trust.
The only Dr. I have had a good experience with is Dr. Maguire. I recently had to put an animal down and they charged me $166 dollars, all while the animal suffered in the waiting room. Before anything is done......please insert money here >>. $166 dollars for a shot to end a suffering animals life, come on they can do better that, and they wanted the money before any services were rendered, Not very compassionate.I could go on and on, but I pray for the day an emergency vet will open somewhere else close by.

Exactly, I couldn't agree more.

We took our shephard in there a few times to get her emergency stiches - they were very good... not much choice in an emergency. But this was a no brainer - dog was attacked, needed stiches, they were the only place open - had to take her there to get her closed up.

The one thing that does pisses me off about them is when you call them late at night and ask them a question; they will give you little to no advice over the phone. They recommend you to bring the animal end. Now, this has only been since the past couple of years I believe, but it honks me off neverless.

when I say "our dog" it is actually my parents dog, so it would be their decision to make, I just searched for information on how a person could submit a complaint.. and posted it here should anyone one else be able to use the information.

Why is that? Have you had problems there before?

We used to take out dogs there on an emergency basis and have always been treated great and the dogs have always received A+ vet service.

I had a dalmatian who went into seizures and they kept her overnight and gave her full time care.

Dr. Fox is great in my book.

When we had an emergency, just moved to Calvert, we took our dog there and there was one doc there who was just terrific. I can't remember his name though.

John Q. Public wants the world for fido, until they get the bill.. Then it's "holy moses, 166 for a shot?? eff that, it can't be worth more than 10 plus 5 minutes of your time. I'm only paying 20 & the rest of the bill can go up your azz"..

I'm gonna take a wild guess that you have not been stiffed on a bill after services have been rendered..

FWIW, the emergency vet that opens close to you will operate the same way as all the others. Pay before services are rendered..

Probably Dr. Fallon. He did the work on mine when she got hit by a car and both front legs run over. They were wonderful I thought. 6k later and and she's back to normal. No complaints. :yay:

Glad she's doing great, same with my girl. She was in there for about one week and I have zero complaints. They really seemed to care about her.
