That's what cracks me up about the whole thing.elaine said:You're basically paying to advertise for them.
You can thank the union for part of that.I'mno Mensa said:I was coming home the other day and stopped at the new Harley Shop off BW Parkway.

I doubt it since most of them are probably made in sweat shops in Thailand. You can thank capitalism though. They raise the prices until sales drop off and then lower them again. Whatever the market will bear.Dutch6 said:You can thank the union for part of that.
Check out the one in Hughesville, it's a clothing boutique that sells bikesI'mno Mensa said:I was coming home the other day and stopped at the new Harley Shop off BW Parkway.

I like it when some guy walks up and declares "I'll never own ANYTHING but a HD". When you ask them what they're riding they tell you they don't have one, BUT if they did it would be a HDAA996 said:I'm always tickled when some accountant/doctor/lawyer wants to walk on the wild side so he gets a Super Dyna Wide Glide Ultra Heritage Classic hog and declares to us unwashed, "If you ain't ridin' a Harley, you ain't s***!" Or they'll call my bike a rice burner. :clueless: It's always interesting to ask them how many bikes they've owned, or even ridden - most of the time it's their first motorcycle.
I'm glad you said "lots of Harley riders", because I wear jeans and black boots but rarely ever wear the black shirts. I wear WHITE sleeveless ones and the tank tops. I won't wear shorts because I've been hit in the legs by too many bugs, birds and other flying objects. What puzzles me is those on the "rice rockets" who are covered in gloves, jackets, thick pants and full faced helmts in the hottest days of summer?? OK for protection from a fall but what about from heat stroke? And yes, the HD stands for high dollar. I saw a leather jacket in Hughesville for $595 and I thought you folks are NUTS! I'm also not very happy to see that much of the HD items now are made in Taiwang! Same as my car, I buy ONLY American but when I go to work on it, it's ALL metric!beerlover said:But you HAVE to buy one... It's part of the "uniform". That cracks me up about lots of Harley riders... The image I always had of a biker was of a free spirit, do what I want kind of guy. But every poser who ponies up $20K for a shiny new garbage barge that they put 200 miles on every summer and can't even change a spark plug on in order to be cool has to buy all the exact same clothing as every other Harley rider. And I love going to a rally in the summer and seeing all the "cool guys" walking around with their chaps and leather jacket on in 100 degree heat. You can't buy and pose your way into being a real biker. It ain't what you wear or what you ride, it's THAT you ride.
I wear mesh protective gear when it's hot, it's like wearing shade and actually feels cooler than just wearing a T-shirt.ItalianScallion said:What puzzles me is those on the "rice rockets" who are covered in gloves, jackets, thick pants and full faced helmts in the hottest days of summer?? Okay, I have to ask.. Is the asphalt softer on the single lane roads??Foxhound said:As for the fasion show. There are times I will forgo the protective Jacket, usually if I'm going to stay local and off multi lane roads.
Stay safe, ride defensively.
You have to figure it's a game of statistics.. if you ride any amount of miles, the chances are good either you are going down, or are going to get hit. I've seen full face helmets from riders that were rear ended sitting at a light.. and the chin bar abraded down enough that if it was your chin, you wouldn't have one. The accident had NOTHING to do with rider ability or experience, the riders number was up and he got hit. In this instance the rider slid over 60 feet down the road AFTER impacting the pavement, and still walked away (his new bike was totalled). I've also got a friend who lowsided her bike on an oil spot on on off ramp, and what would have been an ER visit for a "normally" dresed rider, she got up brushed herself off, and was pissed her bike wasn't rideable..ItalianScallion said:I'm glad you said "lots of Harley riders", because I wear jeans and black boots but rarely ever wear the black shirts. I have to agree with you Bob but you're telling me that all that extra clothing is cooler (feeling not looking) than a tank top, unless because it might keep the sun's rays off your skin? I knew a cop who was fully dressed and was killed last year by a careless driver. He had a full face helmet on and other protective clothing but, sadly, his neck was broken when he hit a 4X4 signpost in the median strip. I've been riding for 31 years and I do spend every minute of riding, watching out and keeping my distance from the other "driver" (or better called weapon operator).itsbob said:You have to figure it's a game of statistics.. if you ride any amount of miles, the chances are good either you are going down, or are going to get hit. Saying protective gear is too hot, means you haven't done your research. i can wear my armored pants and jacket, and be more comfortable than someone in shorts and a t-shirt.
Exactly, my mesh jacket keeps the sun off and allows plenty of air flow.ItalianScallion said:you're telling me that all that extra clothing is cooler (feeling not looking) than a tank top, unless because it might keep the sun's rays off your skin?
