355 Million

Dare I ask if anyone can show me where a victim is required in the language of the fraud statue(s) he violated?

I’ll wait.
More of the case hinges on the extreme lowballing of the value of Mar-A-Lago - incredulously valued at a mere 27 million.

I don't know tax or real estate law - I know that the "assessment" was based on the income generated by Mar-A-Lago as a private club - that's how it works. There are MUCH smaller pieces of property RIGHT NEXT TO MAR-A-LAGO that are "valued" at greater than 18-27 million. Hell, there are completely UNDEVELOPED pieces of land in Palm Beach worth 50-170 million.

So the question becomes, is Mar-A-Lago worth 27 million, based on the INCOME it creates? Or 400-600 million, based on the actual land it sits on?
Because there's really no question, if anyone needed to SELL Mar-A-Lago, it would fetch at least that much.

I'm still concerned that Engoron's MAIN beef with Trump - well, aside from the rather obvious TDS - is that Trump "wasn't remorseful".
THAT IS HIS BASIS? When did he become a judge? The Middle Ages?

If the verdict is monetary, not prison time, it's a civil trial and not a criminal trial. Civil trials need victims.

Value ... what the state charges you on taxed value and what you are able to convince someone to pay

So if someone is charged with reckless driving, speeding or drunk driving who exactly is the victim? These are all punishable by monetary fines

And they based their fraud case on the tax assessment. But I guarantee you, no one could BUY Mar-A-Lago for the pittance they say it is worth. There is empty land on that island worth more than their assessment.

I was listening to a radio show the other day - and the number came up from Trump's trial.

How did they come up with such a number? There's no injured party. I'm hard-pressed to even think of an actual law being broken - near as I can tell, Trump overvalued his assets to secure loans. I don't know how these were determined - to me, valuing an asset like real estate meanders well into voodoo and hokum - kind of like valuing art.

But the loans were paid, with interest. The banks made its money - they are not complaining about fraud - and they're not getting any of the 355 million.

So how did they come up with the amount?

It's the estimated amount Trump has that is easily liquidated. Yup. It's like the guy at the store selling you something and saying it's worth all the cash in your pockets and in your checking and savings. The number isn't related to ANYTHING - except the biggest amount they can hurt him with.

This isn't even close to "justice". Justice would be to make sure those injured got what was due them. They just want to hurt him. NOW they're talking about barring him from doing business there and taking his properties.

Why is it NOT about justice? Does anyone believe they would bother pursuing this, if he decided to drop out of the race, tomorrow?
I wonder how many of our "esteemed" leaders have overvalued their assets to aquire a loan, how many padded a resume to get a job, As you stated, the loans were paid back on time, with interest. What is the crime??

There are even Democrat leaders - and not a few New York business leaders - beginning to voice concern over the use of this law. Hemi is right in this case - they chose a law to nail him on, which doesn't actually require a victim in fraud. I saw a piece where Cuomo was saying this sets a bad precedent, because the DA isn't always going to be a Democrat - you could probably screw over dozens of people by the way this law is applied.

My thought still runs along the assessment of the value of Mar-A-Lago, but - I am not a lawyer and I haven't seen that Trump's lawyers pursue that angle.

I'm of course, also concerned that James campaigned on getting Trump. Not for a specific crime - just - getting him. That is not the way our judicial system is supposed to work. I have enough lawyers in my family to know that - don't piss any off. They can find SOMETHING to screw you with.

I'm not sure when, but as to the "how?" I think there was a Cracker Jack prize involved.

What is wrong with you people. This has nothing to do with land value or fraud, or bank loans.
This whole thing is the democrats latest dirty trick to keep Trump out of the White House.
He is being Palinized. This is the same trick they pulled on Sarah Palin to get her out of the Alaska State House. Then the stupid bass turds up there voted in Lisa Murkowski, one of the biggest pieces of scum in the Senate. No! this isn't about fraud, this is about Election Interference.
