I almost threw my popcorn in the air when that leopard seal jumped out. :lmao: I expect that kind of stuff watching a horror flick, but this is supposed to be family-friendly, sanitized entertainment. I was caught off guard.

Am I the only sissy who CRIED through this entire move?
I'm gonna blame it on the fact I had to put down my 10 year old Siberian Husky this past February 2.
I've been lending the move to everyone hoping someone would loose it or maybe my grandson would eat it like he does everyother DVD....but no luck, it always comes home safe, so I know I'm gonna be stupid enough to watch it again......................and cry through it AGAIN.
Geez, I need to get a life! :killingme

No, you're definitely not. When I saw it in theatres, I saw plenty of people shuffling out of the theatre in tears after the end credits began. The movie might not be a conventional tearjerker, the way The Notebook (for example) is, but lots and lots of people are reacting that way to it. I'd chalk it up to people's love of animals and the effectiveness of director Frank Marshall's approach.

I'll have ya'll know my last 8 dogs have been 2 Malamutes and 6 Huskies... (The other being a Golden :lmao:) and I cannot tell you how much I LOVED the dogs and their roles! Their personalities match my own, I suppose... If you have the DVD still handy, watch the special features on working with the dogs...

I was wanting to rent it, now not so sure. Is it really that sad? I cannot watch movies if animals are being hurt...

Not sure what this is about...guess I'll do a search before renting..

It's about eight sled dogs who are left behind in the Arctic because all the humans have to flee as a storm approaches. Afterwards, it splits, in essence, into two movies: the owner (Paul Walker) desperately tries to return and find them, while the dogs fight to survive in unforgiving conditions.

There's no 'animal cruelty' in the movie, but it does show animals facing peril and being harmed in a serious of elaborate action sequences. The movie does a fairly good job of not sugarcoating the storyline, so I could see this film disturbing people.

Thank you, Dot. Sounds to me I better stay away from this one.
You'll love the animals, if you do decide to watch - they're strong willed and have incredible character!!!

You just may not like people so much... :ohwell:

It's sugar-coated quite a bit... The story its based on had the reverse outcome.

I am not familiar with the story it's based on, I'm afraid. I was trying to put across how 8 Below is less sugarcoated than most Disney movies. You know, they didn't cast Eddie Murphy to do voices for the dogs and all the dogs didn't live, which is the type of stuff you would usually expect from Disney. I would, at least.

I knew what you meant... what you both meant actually... It's pretty "brutal" so to speak, for a Disney flick, but it's not a hard-hitting more true, more brutal depiction of what took place that you'd find on, say, Discovery/History/etc... Which is fine by me :yay:

I think in the true story, the one on which the Disney story is loosely based, only a couple of the dogs survived, but I think the time frame was much longer... And the specifics were a little tough...

So, I like the Disney version's odds better, even if I think the people still sucked

Homesick, I hope you enjoyed it, for what it's worth - the dogs still rocked!!!

I enjoyed it very much. It proved to me once again how much smarter/better animals are compared to man.

Also, I have to give credit to Disney in being able to do what no other movie has when it came to the sea lion part....my reflexes were all over the place. Glad I was at home.

:lmao: I watched it with my Dad. When the sea lion thing happened I jumped up and screamed OH SH!T~! My Dad just laughed.

Glad you liked the movie. :huggy:
