A beginner's sportbike...

LAstly.. take the MSF riders course before you sink the money into a bike.

Learn to ride, and see if it's something you really want to do.. chances are you will, but might as well be sure.

Sad part is, unlike cars, very few motorcycle dealers will let you take a bike for spin.. hard to get a feel sitting in the showroom going.. varooooooooooooooom.. varooooooooooooooommm...

+1 on the Sport-Tour bike, my Honda CBR1100 sorta fits there. Also the MSF course is a must do. A few dealers will let you ride if you have a motorcycle cert on your drivers license, ask around.

Dont make a mistake...

by buying anything less than 750 , unless u wanna buy a 500 CC bike for few months to train on and then u go selling it for a bigger one , i am saying this of my experience , i bought a Kawa Z750S last june which is a great beginner's bike , which i am selling right now for K1200R.
sport-touring (urban) bikes are great bikes to get a feel of confidence if one is a new rider , u sit straight up and handle bars have better handling than the sports models.
good luck.

Thanks for that info. I definitely have a few things to think about prior to making a purchase. I was looking at those BMW bikes - too much money as a starter but I like the looks of them.

Huh?

The Z750S is a nice bike however, without knowing how he will ride the first statement makes no sense. The second... :ohwell:

I know several folks that have moved "down" to the 650 V Strom. Went to a V Strom GTG las summer in TN, met one guy there from Canada on his 650.

Probably alot of used 600 & 650 machines around that'll fit into your $4000 price range. Name plate on the side doesn't mean much. Size em' up and giddy-yup-go!
