A local puppy is DEAD due to Recalled Dog Food

I recommended the Diamond Naturals line of kibble to a puppy owner who purchased it the same day as i did, last Saturday April 28th. He didn't have to feed it until this past Friday 5/5/12. The puppy developed screaming bloody stools and bloody vomiting withina few hours of eating it and he died last night, less than 24 hours later, despite intensive care, IV fluids and antibiobics. He was only 11 weeks old.

The few that i fed out of the new bags last week also developed nasty, stinking, soft, loose stool, so i didn't feed any more of it. The Naturals line weren't included at all until just recently and the Chicken and Rice still wasn't included by name even when the lamb was included - now they've now included a production code and date range for the entire naturals line with a current production date:

.... things hit harder for the young ones..

I was notified on friday night that TOW was recalled... and was ..
and to find out the bag i was feeding (and almost done) with was one that was under the recall

.... Luck that none of my became ill..or showed any signs.......

SO I have now started a semi fast switch to a new food!

MESS IS SPREAD BY CONTACT NOT ONLY BY INGESTING THIS FOOD. My one daughter lives with an immunocompromised 4 y/o child and they are on the way to the specialist right now - she has tummy pains and loose stools. I'm on the phone as we speak.

Personally, I do not remember a recall in 2011 but as much info as I have to decipher on a given day, it does not surprize me that I wouldn't remember it. I do recall the earlier. I swore I would never carry any Diamond products for a long time because of it but people wanted TOW and Chicken soup and I ate crow when I placed my 1st order.
Ironically, few people have expressed that they would not buy the products again- most want to know when we will be getting it in again.
In the meantime, I have introduced a new line called Earthborn that is similar in protein, fat and flavors to the TOW. I got a shipment in Friday and will be ordering more today.

Oh and I contacted the ones that were in your store the other day.. to let them know about TOW... they had switched over to that a while ago....

well looks like i caught it early (bruno is on totw) and all she has now is loose stools and all she wants to do is sleep so i guess she doesn't feel good as she is usually begging to go out and play and run run run. I will be dumping the rest of the food in the trash as i didn't save the bag. Learned a lesson from now on i will be saving my bags until the food is gone.

Thank you. I was raised Catholic and do tend to still absorb a lot of guilt!
TOW has been our #1 selling food and most peoples animals thrive on it. We have promoted it and I hope my customers do not lose trust in our word or the products we sell.

As a business, I have 8 people on payroll and the lost revenue on sales has hurt pretty badly. I have to maintain $X a day to pay employees and all the bills in both stores. The bills are piling up...
