well I just found out that Natural Balance is part of this as well...
I used that also a while ago....

I just hope Acana hold up to be a great company... oh and Evo as well.
And now I stand corrected, because it was Natural Balance that we tried, not Taste of the Wild. I don't even think we got through a whole bag.

They also manufacture under contract, for other companies, at least some of the pet foods sold under these brands or business names.

Canidae Pet Food
Costco's Kirkland Signature
Solid Gold Health Products for Pets
Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods
Kirkland Signature Nature's Domain (Available only at Costco)
Taste of the Wild Pet Foods
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul
4Health (Available only at Tractor Supply Company)
NutraGold Super Premium Holistic Formulas

Most of the above has been mentioned in this thread, I only noticed that Solid Gold was not included on the recall list so far....
They also manufacture Bright Bites brand dental treats.

I used to feed mine TOTW and am so glad I switched back to EVO a couple of months ago. I guess it can happen anywhere though.

I have a feeling this is just a tip of the iceberg, I bet Diamond processes more than above. I need to try and find my Dog Journal edition that lists the food and who has been sub-contracted out to manufacture it. Wow! This is really scarey. Not to panic or anything :cds:

I agree with you. It just seems more and more products are added to the FDA's list. Pet owner's need to to check their treats as well. The list includes cat, horse and even reptile food product recalls.

It would be nice if the FDA would update their lists and keep them updated. What you posted said it was updated March 22. I went on their sites last week and found the same thing...

That's a link for people who haven't thought to check their pets food for themselves yet.

on the FDA page, scroll down to news and events and there are the most recent updates, which I posted yesterday.

You spent the time and found what you were looking for. The average person wouldn't do that- hell, I poked around the site for a couple minutes and couldn't find anything current. I would never use the site as a reference point given my inability to navigate to anything current.
Will I be seeing you this Saturday????

Just saw this new article about the whole mess:

"Diamond Pet Foods has expanded a recall of its dry dog food, taking precautionary steps after several of its brands were linked to an outbreak of a rare strain of salmonella poisoning that infected at least 14 people in nine states.

The company said it was now pulling a total of nine brands of its dry dog food from the shelves. In April, it began the recall by pulling three brands."

Help "Invisible Dogs"
A few weeks ago over half my foster dogs started having nasty diarhhea and I had been feeding Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice. Others in my group feed the same thing and still haven't had any issues. I had already decided to switch foods before this came out. I have switched to Beaverdam and so far all have cleared up.

This sucks, we all try to do the best we can and then... you never know.

Is this something that should make us turn away from this brand completely and forever? Or is this something that happens, not necessarily from unsanitary practices but accidentally?

Are there any brands that have never been subject to a recall? I know it gets pretty tricky with brands buying out other brands and whatnot.

after three recalls.... im done... three strikes you are out!!! but in my eyes when they shut the plant down.... they should have disclosed about all brands the make or deal with..and "recalled" them at that time...

and yes... there are a few out there :yay: not saying that it cant happen to them....

I would LIKE to think that the Plant would do it's best to try it's place clean, in order to build up their reputation again. But frankly, I don't think I'd go back to them again. I am so concerned right now, that I just might start making my own Dog & Cat Food.

i won't go back to taste of the wild...i am now feeding the dog earthborn and think i will stay with that instead of playing games with the dog and going back and forth to all these different dogfoods.

I am just glad someone pointed out the recall website and i saw the food i feed my dog listed if not there could be a chance the dog could ended up really ill.

Do you mean that this same company has had three recalls before?

I believe that Flint River Ranch has never had a recall. I used to be a distributor for them but the price kept going up and I could no longer afford to feed it to my critters (cats and dogs). I had few regular customers so I gave up my distributorship, it just wasn't worth the $20 a month I made to continue.

If I knew I could get and maintain 5 or more customers, I'd become a distributor again. I was doing it to use the profit for the critter rescue. With all the recalls, you'd think that people would be turning to Flint River Ranch now. They ship the food to your home. For people with big dogs that helps a lot as you don't have to lug the bags from the store.

Actually I've started making my own food for the dogs. It's been a hit. And with smaller dogs, it's been pretty easy to make up a batch of their food at the same time I'm cooking dinner. I've been doing all kinds of research and I'm actually happier going this route than worrying their food's going to be recalled. And my picky eater is actually excited about meal times now. The supplements are a little pricy, but they go a long way. I don't know about folks with bigger dogs, it may be a lot more work for the owners and not as cost effective.

Amazing how much they look forward to their meals even more, huh? lol I have more info if you'd like it.

Absolutely! Thank you. I've been surfing around and ordered a book too. I think my only concern right now is I'm going to overfeed them or underfeed them. Most information out there is for an average dog weight and mine weigh in at much less. If my math is correct I should just be feeding them each a cup a day total, which is what I was feeding before. But previously they wouldn't eat all their food at each meal. Now they eat it all and act like they want more. The boy has started carrying his food bowl to me.
