I cannot believe my luck! I just got this new computer yesterday. I paid for overnight delivery and the SOB is NOT WORKING PROPERLY!!!!!!! :banghead:

I did not buy a Dell this time because I didn't want to go through the crap I have been through with them in the past.

I bought an HP Touchsmart computer and the damn touch screen isn't working!!!! :tantrum

So I call them and they agree to exchange it but I have to have my husband on the line to process the exchange because the account is in his name. HE'S NOT HERE AND IS UNREACHABLE!!!! :banghead:

So now I have to sit here and wait for him to get done playing with his guns and his buddies so I can get this authorized and get it processing!!!! :jameo:

I hate fricken technicalities!!! ARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!! :burning:

Just spent an hour on the phone with HP and HSBC trying to get them to authorize an exchange!! :banghead:

First HP tells me that they are sold out of the unit that I bought and I'm fuming by then!!!! Then they finally find one that they can customize for me and ship it, she gets ready to put the order in the cart and then she asks me for my account number. I say I don't have it, the guy at the bank approved it for me Thursday when he talked to my husband. I was told you could call the bank and get it approved through them again as long as my husband was here to talk to them.

So she calls the bank. The lady at the bank says who authorized that the first time and I'm like, I have no clue, just some guy that works for you asked my husband a bunch of questions that only he would know and they approved it. She says well I can't do that you have to wait until you get your card. :banghead:

I said NO you did it before you can do it again. She said are you on the account? I said no, but I OPENED the account! She said well I need to speak to the account holder. ( I knew that was a mistake right away, cause this man does NOT know how to handle things like this)

I hand him the phone and he's like yeah, yes maam, so on a so forth and he was about to hang up!!! I said OH HELL NO! I grabbed the phone and went OFF on this woman.

Long story short. My new computer is on it's way and it is custom built this time. I love my big brass ones!!!!

Not to get side tracked (my apologies Mousebaby) but funny you would make the statement about your Dad. My sister has the same problem. She has gone through 4 laptops over the years and it has been a support nightmare for me! At least once a month I get a panic call - HELP! Norton won't renew correctly, the way AOL looked yesterday is different then this morning and I want it the same exact way as yesterday, the PC is running slower, why does it take so long for my PC to load now, I ran a PC checkup (AOL again!) and it says I need to buy their version of Spy software now, why won't this attachment open (AOL again!), why can't I view this image, I don't remember my memory making noise, why can't I do this in Microsoft Word (I could do it in WordPerfect), why are the Icons in different positions then my home PC (I want them to look the same!), and so forth. And, when things go wrong - she simply panics! :killingme:killingme:killingme

Oh yea - that's the solution. Throw away all your windoze software, pay premium for more software, relearn everything you learned before, etc. Oh yea - that's the solution.:killingme:killingme:killingme

Not to diffuse your rant or anything ...

Touchscreens often need to be calibrated. A process in which the device will display some kind of a target that you then have to touch, in order to properly map x and y coordinates. Maybe there's something in the manual covering this?

Nope, ran a diagnostic and the thing is just dead. They have a feeling it was the FedEx guy that delivered it. Considering that he let the speaker system fall completely off the truck. Thank God for small miracles, it still works. The outer box the screen came in was damaged. So I'm thinking that may have had something to do with it. I will be calling FedEx Monday to inform them of the condition the box was in and the fact that dude was not careful with the components. I am just lucky that HP has the 21 day guarantee.

Yeah. Like Microjunk users don't have to re-buy stuff and learn how to use the "same" system all over again with every new version. And pay out the ying yang for the "privilege."

I'll take Linux in any of it flavors with OpenOffice and a zillion other free applications that work better and the same, with the exception of enhancements, from version to version.

Mac is at least a Unix variant and is typically far more stable than anything Redmond has produced since DOS 3.3.

exactly. i changed my work laptop into a dual boot with linux. they can keep drinking the kool-aid while i have trouble free systems running free sw that works better, faster, and has more features. i guess its good though because gates has made me some good money and a career.

i suggested a mac because for most people it takes less then a day to unlearn the complicated windows way of doing things. they last longer, come loaded with sw you can use, and hold resale value.

2ndAmendment and dn0121 - take it easy now. We can get free software just like you and your MacOS/Linux. I believe it is called www: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite ? Come on, we can dual boot as well. Hey, the only way to tell a MacOS from Window's is the GUI interface and the way you open up some applications. The big difference these days is software availability. Generic software is available for both but when you get into specific software - that is where Windows shines. Anyway - happy to have gotten your blood pumping 2ndAmendment and dn0121.:killingme:killingme:killingme:killingme

Mac lovers can't see the forest for the trees. Hey, nothing wrong with Mac. Not as secure as they'd like to think.

But for those of us who work in the real world, outside of graphics departments, we have to deal with Windows, like it or not.

Our graphics department is doing quite well using Windows.

Now me learning 3ds Max Design 2009 is another story (no matter what the platform).

That is one comprehensive 3D modeling software - you will spend many hours playing with it!:killingme

Hey, one of my first computers was the old Mac. The Mac is a great machine but (like you) - when you have to support users - the Mac is in the minority and just not cost effective (back then).

lol no not blood pumping at all, not sure why you thought that. i never went to a personal level (at least i didnt think i did) and i wasn't trying to insult you two. i support windows at work also. i just like to provide a different perspective on things.

as for out of the box, mac is 99% more secure then windows. and yes i know the majority will say it is because windows has the market share, but it is also because of the way sw is installed on macs. if people would learn about windows and how to use it successfully there wouldnt be so many issues. i have an xp box that ive had for 3 years now without having to rebuild once. it certainly is possible but it takes a bit of effort on the users end as you and the rest of us in IT know.
