Accident Rt. 5 and 231

Motorcycle went down a bit after 5:00 this morning on Rt. 5 northbound, pretty much right over top of 231.

If you have to go that way, I'd suggest either taking Oaks Rd. and Oliver Shop or Burnt Store. Going thru old Rt. 5 in "downtown" Hughesville would also be an option, but I imagine traffic will be pretty jammed between Charlotte Hall and Hughesville.

I went thru JUST after the accident. Didn't see it happen, but he couldn't have gone down more than 3 minutes before I went thru. Cars were doing a good job of blocking the lanes in an alternating fashion to protect the scene. Rider was down in the right lane and witnesses were watching over him. Bike was in the left lane. I believe it was a Goldwing. Looks like he may have hit some blackice and lost it entering the left hand curve of the road.

I must've come through not too long after it happened also. There were 2 ambulances and several police cars there. Everyone was being nice and letting each other get over to the far right, exit like they were going to Hughesville, going through the circle, and then back up onto the highway. Hope the rider is okay.

When I went thru, we were snaking thru the vehicles and both lanes were being nice about the one after another alternating to form a single lane routine. About the time I got to Randy's BBQ I heard the first of the emergency vehicle sirens.

You were way ahead of me then. When I got there, there were even cars that had passed the exit ramp that were backing up to get over and bypass the scene. People were even being nice about letting them get over. Hope everyone kept being nice and kept the flow going. And again, I hope the rider of the bike wasn't injured too badly.

According to WTOP, the road was closed for accident reconstruction. They don't do that unless it's really bad.

Oh man, that doesn't sound good. My thoughts and prayers go out to the injured and their family.

Ahhh so that's what happened. I must have come through JUST after it happened around 6:10 or so traffic was just starting to really back up and and I happened to be right there at that exit for 5 business through hughsville and cut across. :frown: poor fellow.
Thought/prayers are with the family. Please let us know who it is, once everyone is notified.
