Just think how much more fun that tangled mess of intersections will be once the new Weis gas station is completed and the two lots on the southwest corner of the 5/249 intersection are developed.

I brought it to the County Commissioners attention about this at least three years ago. "They did nothing". If I was a Commissioner I would ensure it woiuld be corrected. It is unsafe in its current status.

same commissioners decided that adding this gas station will have no effect on current traffic conditions and that intersection and area. Monthly accidents there already, but no worries...additional turning traffic will only add an extra one or two every month. No biggie!

I use the laundry at that A&W shopping area and when I'm finished, I need to turn left with all the morning traffic at 8AM. I don't even bother trying anymore. I turn right from the A&W then left into the Weiss parking lot to go south. I know it's longer, but it's also safer and that makes it worth the time. I've been a statistic in this county too often; sideswiped once by someone who ran a stop sign and t-boned by someone who ran a red light. As I've gotten older, I'm finding that safer and mildly time consuming is better than throwing caution to the wind.

Very few people in this county have decent driving manners.

I don't understand the mindset of people willing to waste more time and add more danger when a simple right, left and back out solves the problem. Your current attitude is where we need more people to be at.

There are intersections where I simply will not enter from a certain direction at certain times of the day. Anyone thinking that coming south on Indian Bridge between 3 and 5 on a work day is the best path isn't thinking. The Gate 3 intersection has gotten better now that they forbid lefts against straight traffic, I but I still wont go east west straight through. Risk of a red light runner going 60 plus is still too high. I wont take Hermanville expecting to take a left on 5 in the afternoons.

My stepson is still learning to drive and I am trying so hard to get him to understand this. Always have a conscious and safe plan for entering and exiting some of these plazas and shopping centers. Just because an exit is closer, doesn't necessarily mean it's the safest in that moment. Leaving Harris Teeter by the Medstar clinic is one we fought over recently. We needed to next go North on 235 and I had to explain how it would be much safer, during morning rush, to leave out the back and deal with two lights vs. trying to cut across 3 lanes of constant traffic. Or leaving Lowe's by the mulch and try to turn left to get onto 235 on a Saturday afternoon. There are other safer options that should only cost you an additional minute at most. I tell him to think which way he's going to leave a parking lot before he even starts the car.

The one that gets me is the exit from WaWa onto Rt4 NB (corner of 235/4). Even when traffic is heavy, people still insist on trying to exit WaWa and get across 3 lanes against heavy traffic so they can go NB on 235. More often than not, they wind up not being able to get into the left turn lane and straddle 2 or 3 lanes blocking everything. They'd save time and frustration for everyone if they exited WaWa and went SB on 235 to the next light and make a u-turn. But noooooo.. that would mean going the wrong way.

And I've said this before.... should be mandatory to NOT have business exits onto a major road within 100' of any intersection.

Pro Tip: that's already been done in almost every County in the State. Guess who won those arguments. From my experience they also don't know how to count cars.

OD would be my guess. We can hope they took her to get NARCAN'd. And I concur with the cell phone thing. From behind, its usually quite easy to tell. And my guesses are usually borne out when I pass someone since the bike has me up higher than most. I would state that as the number one threat to traffic safety right now.


Yep. Only really safe option is going into the Weis shopping center and coming back out. And if I ever wanted to enter that from the south, that's what I would do. Like the people who come out of Navy Federal and run the rumble bar to go north, I don't get it. So patterns are dangerous, enough so its not worth any possible time savings. In addition to being illegal, of course.

I suspect you are right. The drug problem is quite significant in Southern Maryland. I wonder why they would stuff her back in the car and not flag someone down for help. Too bad traffic was so heavy preventing me from getting there sooner. The tag number and description of the vehicle I gave the 911 dispatcher was probably enough to get her some help.

Exactly why I avoid going out that Weis entrance. It's awful. (Also, section 8 is a very, very small percentage of who lives back there. Lots of my neighbors didn't even know it existed. Common misconception HQ is a nice hidden gem, though not sure for how much longer...)

No, it is definitely a lot of that. I struggle all the time with people going when they shouldn't or not going when they should. The exit from Weis and exit/entrance from HQ doesn't line up nicely, you can't tell when someone is going straight across into HQ or turning left, and there's also the turn lane in the middle of Rt 5 for both those entrances, and so many people swerve into it last second with no blinker. It's a cluster**** on a good day.
