Yes. If something bad happened to one of our kids, the very LAST thing I'd want is for the media to hang around like a pack of vultures. Making insinuations about our daughter's character, putting it out there for the whole world to see and comment on - that would be our PRIVATE pain and not something I'd feel compelled to share.

You must be...

...kidding.

Privacy is the last thing we'd have.

"Tonight on 11 News, the Blonde Lady is still stalking around with her scalping knife...in this live video clip we've blocked her face out so as to keep her identity secret...eww...that had to hurt...she just got another one there...you get that Herb? Now, if the authorities can just get the 500 people who's doors she's kicked in quiet, she'll remain annonymous..."

I don't think it's anybody's business period. Think about it, if it were you (and guys you are not immune to being raped either, there are some strange cats in this world). Would you want a perfect stranger to know this information about you.

I also think that the name of the accused should be held until that person is convicted.

Rape is a very personal thing. A rape victim has already been violated enough why subject them to public violation? It's just wrong.

in the case of Dennehy, where his roommate supposedly confessed, what about that? release his name or not? his family is flying around with claims of mental instability now too.

i'm on the fence with that one. I suppose it would really depend on the circumstances of each case, but generally speaking, if one is released, I think the other should be too. I guess they would have to develop some sort of flow chart with yes or not options.

1) Is the victim alive? yes, go to box A. no, go to box B.
2) did the accused confess?

you get the picture.

I just don't...

...see publicity as negative. I don't see someone shouting "Stop! Thief!" as wrong. Maybe our system has serious flaws but damn, you are the victim and the system, our system, is there to defend you. Maybe I'm just wrong about what happens?

I see a point about what if I were raped and all but it's just different for men I guess. I mean, does she have big hooters?

Sorry.

It's a serious issue but aside from jail, male on male rape is either vastly under reported or just doesn't happen much.

I hope to never have to find out first hand for my wife, my girls or anyone I know closely. There isn't much I consider uglier.

The subject at hand however, Kobe, just doesn't sound like the real thing, but, again, what do I know? My wife will tell me to "shut up then" any minute now.

tic...tic...tic...

I don't think it happens too often but I do think it happens more then it's reported.

I just believe that being the victim of a sex crime is a very personal thing. I know if it were me I would go to the police, I would press charges but I would not run around town screaming it from the roof tops because it's nobody's business but mine.

*ahem* Maybe we should ask, "Does HE have a big weener?" If you know what I mean. And considering the VAST majority of violent crimes are committed by men. *ahem* How do you feel about the publicity now, hmmmm?

:yeahthat: and you wouldn't want people to treat you like a fragile little victim the rest of your life either. you would want to be able to move on with your life. not spend it being referred to as the girl that got raped or the guy accused of raping someone.

Excuse me? 1 out of 8 people arrested? 6.4% of the prison population? Doesn't sound like we're going to be catching ya'll any time soon. It sounds good to say that female violence has risen 400% but it's still not an epidemic. Note the crimes they cited - poisonings, routine murders. The only one that was somewhat shocking was Karla Faye Tucker, the pickaxe babe.

Wake me up when a woman rapes, dismembers and then eats her victim.
