Adopting a dog

We are thinking of adopting a dog. We have been looking around at petfinder.com. We read the application processes and he doesn't want to do all that. So anyone have any other suggestions?

Why not? It is for your protection as well as the dog's.

What part of the process doesn't he like?

Maybe you could find one on Craigslist that someone is rehoming?

 He doesn't want anyone coming to our home. He's weird like that.

Go to CAWL. They WILL come to your home and see if the dog is okay in your home, but they are totally non-invasive. The girl we got Rassie from brought her over, checked out the yard (Rassie doesn't need a fence) and left her with me that day. They are the best. They're going to do a home check if you go with a rescue. We found CAWL to be the LEAST invasive and very easy to work with.

Can we just have Rassie? I love her

Oops guess not.. rule 12
12. The adopter will make every attempt to keep this animal for the rest of the animal’s life AND WILL NOT TRANSFER OWNERSHIP OR CUSTODY TO ANOTHER PERSON, BUSINESS OR ANY ANIMAL SHELTER. If the animal cannot be kept for any reason, the adopter agrees to return it to CAWL. The adopter shall notify CAWL of this wish at least 48 hours before custody is to be given up.

I would hate to take her back to the shelter. I think they would work with re-homing her with a good home if that need ever arose and I believe they would work with me if I found her a good home. CAWL is great, SMAWL just throws up so many barriers, it's impossible to work with them. The Well Pet Clinic has a monthly thing with animals to adopt and they are easy to work with. We just ended up with an awesome dog, thanks to Catt.

We adopted one of our doggies last year from a rescue group down at Well Pet Clinic in Lex Park. I think they were called ARF (Animal Relief Fund) I had to complete an application for their approval. They were really cool and nice to work with. And I love my dog. Can't believe its been over a year.

She was just responding to her question about whether they could just take Rassie. I read it wrong the first time, also, then realized she was responding to her own post about us not being able to give her Rassie. Chill, Catt.

Most rescues would...they just want to be sure the dogs don't end up at a place like Tri County or with someone that won't take care of them.

I didn't say anything was wrong with. I was teasing BSGAL about giving me Rassie...

Ahhhh...:yay:

I don't even know if I am ready for another dog. We lost our dog of 10 years, last year. Honestly I don't want a puppy but would like to take in an older dog. I think DH is really leaning towards a fu fu dog

:roflmao: See, this is how it started with Rassie. We lost Tipper in March. It was horrible coming home to no happy greeting from a dog. They are SO glad to see you at the end of the day. So, DR said "get yourself a lap dog." I looked at a Yorkie, but we got turned down for that because the dog had separation issues, due to being abandoned for a few months, so a working couple wouldn't work for the Yorkie. We looked at a really cute dog at the Well Pet Clinic, but it had some serious health issues I wasn't ready to take on. Our "lap dog" ended up being our 72 pound Rassie.:lmao:

We both went up and looked at her after Catt sent me the pic and we both fell in love with her. That was on a Sunday, and I had her by Tuesday, I think. Came home at lunch, the girl brought her over, looked over the yard and left her with us. I did keep her updated for a few weeks on her progress and she was really glad to hear how well she was doing. We got a saint when we got Rassie. Not only is she a great dog, but she, I believe, got us both on the move, out of the depression from losing Tipper. She's even gone to work with me once and loved it.
