Try some lube. Lube always works.

See...that's just the thing. I prefer the self-lubing. When they don't self lube anymore, they are broken and you just chuck 'em.

So you don't save them for a collection? They would probably display well in a nice curio cabinet.

I agree, self lubing dipsticks are the best! The problem lies in finding the right size. Nothing worse than finding out the dipstick is the wrong size after you've vested time and money in it.

I've recently noticed a high-pitched winding noise in the front end of my car. Would any of you car savvy peeps know what could be causing the noise? I plan on taking it in for a physical once Christmas is over, but I'd like to have an idea as to what the problem is first (so I can pretend I know what I'm talking about).

TIA and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Sounds like either the alternator as already stated, OR your power steering pump may need the fluid topped off. The P/S pump will be more of a whine than a squeal. Look at your owner's manual under fluid maintenance for the location of the reservoir. A bottle of fluid is many times cheaper than a new pump. :howdy:

Year, make, model, engine size, type transmission, does the car have a turbocharger, would all be helpful in trying to figure out what you're dealing with as it could be many different things. Also does it only do it on start up, only while moving, or all the time while running, is it worse at times, if so when and what are you doing, anything like that makes it easier to figure it out.

04 Grand Prix. Automatic V-6, no turbocharger. I only notice the sound when the car is moving, especially when I'm making a left-hand turn. Like I said, the noise gets pitchier as I accelerate. Still the alternator???
