04 Grand Prix. Automatic V-6, no turbocharger. I only notice the sound when the car is moving, especially when I'm making a left-hand turn. Like I said, the noise gets pitchier as I accelerate. Still the alternator???
Sounds like a wheel bearing or half-shaft from this (worse when turning), but it could be the power steering pump. Does the noise sound like it is coming from the wheel or the engine compartment? And do you hear it when slowly backing up?

Sounds like its coming from the wheel or an area under the hood very close to the wheel. I haven't noticed it when backing up but will pay attention next time I do. If I do happen to hear it, does that mean it's more than likely the wheel bearing or the half-shaft?

camily

Peace

Don't laugh when I ask this again...

is that stuff covered under a manufacturer's warranty or am I hosed?
If you are still within the 3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper it might be covered. I don't know. Call the dealer you bought it from.

Did you get the Recall Notice?

General Motors Corporation

Models: Pontiac Grand Prix, 2004
Number Potentially Involved: 47,991
Dates of Manufacture: March – April 2004

Defect: Certain passenger vehicles were produced with lower than specified torque on both front brake calipers to steering knuckle attachment bolts. With improper torque, the clamp load at the joint may not be adequate to prevent movement between the caliper bracket and knuckle. Depending on whether one or both bolts backs out or fractures, the result can be locking of the affected wheel during braking and an abrupt steering input in the direction of the locked wheel, reduced braking and noise from the affected wheel, or severing of a brake hose, increased brake pedal travel, and reduced steering control. Reduced braking or steering control could cause a crash.

Remedy: Dealers are to tighten both bolts to the specified torque. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began on July 6, 2004. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668.

NHTSA Recall No. 04V287
GM Recall No. 04049

Important Note Regarding Auto Recalls: Frequently this site will list auto recalls before your dealer will know about them. If you have a vehicle affected by one of these posted recalls be sure and write down the NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number. If your dealer doesn't know about the recall when you check, ask them how they are notified of recalls and when the next update is due.
