Breeding dogs properly can be an expensive business.

I can completely understand that...but sometimes I think it's shady when these small dog breeders are charging such high prices....especially when the majority of them are definitely not breeding the best of genetics. Sometimes I think breeders take advantage of it.

Ok, but haven't we been talking about how if you breed, you should breed because you want to improve that particular breed...and NOT do it for the money?
You are confusing a couple factors. All breeders are breeding as a business. The argument is that folks that do not do thorough health checks and genealogy on their potential breeders are most likely fouling the breed by possibly passing on genetically inferior offspring. But they usually don't care because the make bank regardless of offspring quality because there is usually someone willing to pay the price.

Just as in buying anything, you must know what you're getting. Demand to see health tests, get references, etc. People can charge any price for anything, doesn't mean crap.

Happy, why didn't you just have the poor little puggle put down? Why give him back? If he's that crappy of a breeder, will he give the poor fella any type of care?
My little one wouldn't let me be responsible for his death, and I just couldn't do it.As it turns out, both pugs and beagles are prone to this type of cancer, and he doubled up on it. i kind of wanted him to SEE what he was responsible for. it may not have been the RIGHT thing to do...he is just kind of letting the guy hang out around the farm with his one other farm dog.

RESPONSIBLE people do c-sections because they watch their dogs and know when there is a problem....need i say more?
many of the fru-fru dogs bred around here don't have the correct structure that denotes those types of issues. they are inferior quality, with elongated heads lacking in bone, and quite frankly, it's survival of the fittest if you know what i mean.

I can understand all of this...I understand all of the different costs involved with breeding/raising/owning animals. Sometimes I just don't agree with people that charge $1200-$1500 for a dog like a labradoodle. I just think that breeding cross-bred animals like that goes against all of the 'responsible breeder' code of ethics or whatever.

I'm not really saying they shouldn't charge that much...I'm just saying that in some cases it does not seem right. I just personally know that I wouldn't pay that much for an animal...I bred sheep for years and when I saw babydoll southdowns (a miniature breed, a good "fad" pet) were selling for so much, I thought it was crazy for someone to pay that much.

I'm just playing devil's advocate. I know people get different animals for different reasons, but sometimes it's just shady how much people charge for a 'rare' animal... :lmao:

As long as there is a market at the elevated prices, the prices will continue to remain high. If more folks would turn to shelters and rescues for pets, it would change the market considerably with the exception of those going for show quality animals.

Boxers quite frequently can require c-sections.

Cowgirl I agree with you...I would not pay that either for a CKC dog...probably not even for a nice AKC dog..I have paid more then that for a kitten though..

:yeahthat: Guess that's why I'll never buy a dog that weighs less than 50lbs!

:lmao: The only animal I'd pay that much for would have to be a horse or a cow!

most breeds with this exaggerated head shape will need a c-sec. Well bred Rotts do as well.

Actually...i should clarify, well bred Rotts CAN require a c-section...but the preferred method is natural birth, and should be encouraged, as in don't breed one who has to deliver by c-section again, it certainly can be a genetic physiology.

Thanks, I thought so but I just wanted some one else's opinion. This lady wants 1200 for CKC and more for AKC. I better wait. That's just way too much. You would think my brother would have gotten his fav sister one when he bought one for that 'stranger' he has brought into our lives. Maybe get a deal, buy one...get one half off. But NOOOOO :lalala:
:smack: Are you nutz?? If you pay that for a Yorkie, I'll kick yer butt! I paid a lil over 1/2 that. :buttkick:

Speaking of the "stranger", she thinks y'all are funny. :killingme
