POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'
Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

LOL, he must think its only SUV's, I wonder how the 100 or so scientist can commended his movies, would say about his actions on this. Maybe gore should be required to buy those credits for polution that the power plants are required to use. Its sad when the leader of a cult cant even put his teachings to use on himself.

Yes i called gore a cult leader. All these bastrd politicians and "climatoligists" are in his cult.

Anybody want to go petition for a ban on dihydrogen monoxide?

I used to have a MSDS sheet for "Dihydrogen Monoxide" hanging on the wall in my lab. I even added it to the hazmat deck! :lmao:

Actually we used to play LOTS of jokes with it, posting it above the water fountains with caution signs, taping it to the fridge door, etc.

I finally got HAMMERED by my boss and the safety people on base after somebody ordered some VERY expensive testing of the water fountains... :ohwell:

Actually, distilled water is listed as hazmat :dork:

This morning - they mentioned that it's worse than even that - combining things like his travel to the Oscars in a Gulf Stream. It seems to me the very least anyone could do - BEFORE you make grand speeches - is try to set the example by changing things yourself.

You know, this man has no business talking about heating the planet until he comes down to earth with the rest of us. I guess I just assumed that as big an azz he is, he would have at LEAST done a few token things to minimize global warming himself.

This is how you know he's full of it, which throws the whole global warming argument into suspicion. His speeches about this topic are very passionate and dramatic, imploring us to save the planet - yet he does nothing himself.

And this illustrates the hypocrisy of the Left: do as I say, not as I do. Very similar to wearing your AIDS ribbon while having unprotected gay sex with some guy you picked up at a leather bar that night.

I just figured that he'd picked up some hybrid car and had a few photo ops of him driving in it - or putting in some useless windmill on his estate, that generates enough power for a light bulb while he runs up thousands of kw-hr's on all his properties. He is a politician - I just assumed that at minimum, he would at least PRETEND to be doing it - or LOOK LIKE he was doing it. He's not even doing that.

And someone wants to give him a "Peace" Prize?

I wondered, while he was up there getting 'his' Oscar, how much did he really have to do with writing, producing and directing the movie. I assumed he was just the mouthpiece, and was involved in this movie as much as he was involved in 'Love Story' and the making of the internet.

I look at him and I see the white Jesse Jackson. Any photo op, any publicity, he'll be there, any poll driven action committee, he'll be there.. as long as the camera's are. And like Jesse Jackson, when it's time to roll up the sleeves and get to work, you won't be able to find him.

Don't worry about AlGore everyone, the State of Maryland is going to stop global warming in its tracks. They're going to raise the gas tax to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. :coffee: I can just see those wacky libs who came up with the idea, "You know Johnson, it's so crazy it just might work!"

Well, in all fairness...
http://www.fairviewobserver.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070227/NEWS01/702270382/1321/MTCN06
Gore purchased 108 blocks of "green power" for each of the past three months, according to a summary of the bills.

That's a total of $432 a month Gore paid extra for solar or other renewable energy sources.
...
"Every family has a different carbon footprint," said Kalee Krider, a spokeswoman for Gore. The Gores' 10,000-square-foot house on Lynnwood Boulevard has a large one.

The Green Power Switch program isn't all that Gore and his wife, Tipper, are doing, Krider said.

They use compact fluorescent light bulbs and are in the midst of a renovation project that includes having solar panels installed on their home to reduce fossil fuel consumption, she said.

Their car? A Lexis hybrid SUV.

"They, of course, also do the carbon emissions offset," she said.

That means figuring out how much carbon is emitted from home power use, and vehicle and plane travel, then paying for projects that will offset that with use of renewable energy, such as solar power.
So, I guess it's ok to waste energy if you have the money
The green power Gore purchased in those three months is equivalent to recycling 2.48 million aluminum cans or 286,092 pounds of newspaper, according to comparison figures on NES' Web site.
Just imagine the aluminum can or newspaper recycling equivalence if he actually reduced his usage...

Anyone ever read about Carbon Offsets?

they are no different than the "indulgences" used by the Church in medival times.

The scam works like this: Al Gore (used in a purely hypothetical way :sarcasm:) determines that he has a specific CO2 footprint (there are calculators to determine your footprint). he then pays some schlep (through an entity) a specific amount, for them to maintain their CO2 reduced lifestyle (typically this is someone in a thirdworld country). or for someone else to cut their own CO2 footprint.

If we compare the planet to a running bath, full almost to the brim with CO2, CO2 offsets are like saying “Al Gore won’t turn off his tap. He'll pay someone else to pay someone else to turn off their own tap.”

If offset companies really can engage with their customers, help them to reduce emissions at source as much as possible, and then offset the rest while they seek even larger reductions, then they are probably providing a true service. However, the only thing they are doing is helping Al Gore alleviate guilt about polluting, and can therefore act to prolong damaging behaviors. The idea of offsetting a private jet flight, or a SUV used to speak at a conference about Gobal Warming is just absurd

All that happens is lets Al Gore pay someone else to allow him to continue to pollute instead of fixing the problem, and in the case of the Third World supplier of Offsets, keeps them at a lifestyle that is below standard of those buying the offsets.
...and I'm sure those third-worlders actually do something to reduce their CO2 output :sarcasm:

Like I said, it's ok to waste energy if you have the money...

This will never happen and I'm not buying all this "renewable energy" crap. Regardless of where he gets it, he still consumes *TWENTY* times the energy you and I do. He is a HYPOCRITE...period...end of story.

It's no longer about reducing your "carbon emissions”. These environmentalist wackos (in particular Al Gore, RFK Jr, Arianna Huffington, Ted Kennedy) realize they have been outted on their environmental hypocrisy and know they are not willing change their pollution-spewing habits so they had to create something to justify it. This “carbon offsets” or “carbon credits” is all sort of like punching someone in the face then apologizing about it afterwards. Doesn’t fix the damage but it sure makes everyone FEEL better.
