I agree. For a long time I have wondered about the role of Islam's martyrdom doctrine in the horrific events of 9/11. Did the terrorists honestly believe that they would be rewarded in paradise by a plethora of virgins (actually a mistranslation of "grapes")? Did they see themselves as patriots for the Arab people, a nationalistic and cultural motivation instead of a religious one? Did they think they were giving their lives to protect their families from "America the Great Satan"? Were they brainwashed by Bin Laden, like the followers of Manson and Koresh and Jim Jones? Or was it some combination of all of these?
