There are something like 200 private contractors, not just one or two. Someone at the county level has the job of setting up routes and assigning them to the individual buses.calamity jane said:Does'nt that mean that each contractor sets up the routes and handles how and if dry runs are made before school starts? I'm a retired bus driver from a public county and they worked much smoother.Wonder if there is someone in charge at the county level of how bus routes are set up?

In Charles County, there is one contractor that runs the school buses for the whole county. They've done it for 30 or 40 years. I don't know who sets up the routes, the county or the contractor, but whoever it is, is much better at the job, then whoever does it in St. Mary's.
I was told the same thing by a St. Mary's bus driver once. Kindergarten or younger, they must see a responsible adult before leaving the child.calamity jane said:Thanks for the info. I was so curious about the car seat question, that I called someone at Cal. school Bd. I'll post what they have to say. If the bus routes are really a mess, maybe some phone calls to some one in charge can make a change. At the job I retired from, I can tell you that A driver would have been fired for leaving a child at an address not authorized and with no-one to meet him. Pre-K and K.
