Maybe, or the opposite could happen where Waldorf may follow the path of Marlow Heights and Oxon Hill and decline. With crime on the rise in the 'Dorf, how long will it keep an upscale image? It wasn't that long ago when people would head up to Iverson Mall without a care in the world. Now is that place even still open? There are some sections of Waldorf that are starting to mirror what we saw developing in PG County 10-15 years ago.
:yeahthat:
Sad but true. I don't see Waldorf ever becoming an upscale anything as long as it neighbors PG. There isn't even a remote comparison to Northern Calvert.

You may be right. Do you think the decline-and-redevelopment happens in cycles? Anacostia, which was considered to be a hellhole 20 years ago, is becoming gentrified.

Well, it's getting gentrified with a new $400+million baseball stadium. I don't know that I would still want to go to Anacostia anytime soon.

if someone wants to go in and dump enough money in an area, it can be revitalized, look at what they did for the Inner Harbor in B-more!

With the Lusby foodlion that is going up. From what I can tell it is not going to be as big as the one in Solomon's. I have to say that the Solomon's one is starting to look nice. I was told they are trying to look more like a gourmet store. I guess they are going to put a unique edge over the other one hoping that they will keep some clientele.

I know of 4 major construction projects in the area.

1. The area between Target & Kmart. I figured that was where the Ross & Best Buy were going???
2. A Home Depot that was supposed to go in Wildwoode. I haven't seen the site though.
3. Lusby Town Center - there's a huge building going behind the post office, but I'm not sure what it's going to be.
4. Lusby Town Center - There's also another huge building going in the cleared land between the Woman's Fitness Center and the Bank of America - not sure what that is, either. All I know is that somewhere in that complex is supposed to be a Giant Foods.
I think one is a plaza with Giant in it, and the other is ANOTHER Food Lion..

they've just decided to CLEAN it.. Actually went in it last week and the floors were WHITE.. Had to stop go outside and check make sure I was in Food Lion. Giant will put a nail in their coffin.. and don't think they can compete with Woodburns on the gourmet, specialty stuff!!

Not so sure Giant will put a nail in the coffin of FL, Giant's prices our higher, Giant is good for sale items, and the stores are very nice, but FL will hold there own. The Food Lion in Waldorf is one of the top three producers and look at all the food stores around them.

That area between FC & KMart was supposed to be Ross, BestBuy, Old Navy & a PetCo.

The FC developer wanted to put a new movie house in FC, but couldn't draw any movie chains to build one here. The losers who did the study concluded that one theater here is enough and the area couldn't support two theaters so close to each other. Duh!!! If those number-crunchers only knew we wanted a new one to be built so the OLD ONE WOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS & BE BULLDOZED!!! We don't want or need two theaters here - we want a replacement! So...the FC developers drew BJ's to build here and submitted the paperwork for the zoning use change. The idiot County Kommissioners told the developer he could ONLY build a movie theater as originally approved........unless the developer agreed to build a pool for the county in Great Mills...and then & only then would they approve the zoning change for the BJ's. Last time I checked, isn't that called extortion?????

The FC housing area is in the woods directly behind Target/Giant and at the 90 degree bend in the road.

I go to annapolis before I go to the one here. Not only that, but if they build one, they need to be FORCEFUL with the teenagers and young adults who feel it is ok to talk through movies, yell, scream and talk on their cell phones.

There used to be a Roses years ago in Waldorf. I liked their once a week double coupon day. They would double coupons up to $1.00. Got a lot of great deals that way.

I personally don't care for foodlion. I like there prices. Yet I am very careful on the meat I buy from them. I was hoping for a Safeway. As of now I go to PF Safeway to do my meat shopping. I just do not see the point of having two Foodlion with in five miles of each other. I am glad to see more business here in Calvert. However We do not want it to get to big. We will lose what we love about this place the quietness and peacefulness.I know that in the little shopping area next to the post office in Lusby, we are getting yet another liquor store, curves, real estate agent, insurance agent, nail place, dry cleaners, a restaurant, and I believe a Chinese place too. This is what I have read so far from the Calvert website.
