Any Good Pediatrician?

Another doctor that I had issues with. Kept us coming back every day even though antibiotics take atleast 24 hours to kick in. Tested for strep no matter what my son was being seen for. Also had billing issues there. It took a year to get his office to finally stop sending me bills for visits that were paid for.

Thats because he wanted to get as many office visits paid by your insuarance as possible by giving you the "Oh, well we need to monitor him/her because of the bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infection etc. so that it doesn't get worse and cause complications."

Yes, sometimes there can be a wait. But, I find their experience and knowledge to be worth the wait everytime. We've been with them for over 10 years and my daughter has had the best care.

That is who we just left! Were with them for the first year and a half for my son but just got sick of the waiting times, totally ridiculous.

I only ever had a problem with one of the doctors being very rude to myself and my husband (previously he was my favorite dr there). But we couldn't justify staying there when they made us wait 30mins to an hour in a room with a baby in a diaper. Seems like it just got worse every time we went. They were fast to get us in an exam room but then we just had to wait, had one of the drs say they'd "forgotten" about us on more than one occasion. Then we switched to Cambridge Peds and never looked back, they are awesome and have fantastic hours.

Thanks

I'm currently seeing Dr Sheth, I liked him at first but I must admit, I'm getting very tired of feeling like a horrible, stupid parent because I don't want to give my daughter 4 shots at once....

He tried the "the insurance company isn't going to pay for these if we split them" game on me, and still I refused and it was magical how the insurance company still paid.

I'm also still a little irritated because my daughter had an ear infection and was being treated for it. The return (check-up) visit she was also due for some of her shots, well the tech tells me that if they check the ear out again that the insurance company won't pay for her shots. I said "ok", seemed like a good excuse. After the doctor checks everything out besides her ear, he leaves the room. Then they want me to come back again for her shots....really irritated me. I still haven't paid the copay because I feel like if she was fine and the ear exam wasn't done, then they should have gone ahead and done the shots. My money doesn't grow on trees. I worked in a medical office, I know how the doctors work - they want your copays.
Also, I keep receiving a bill for the copay and I've called twice about it and they never return my phone calls. Oh well.....thanks again! I appreciate everyones help.

Every doctor I've taken my kids to has given them multiple shots at once. They've never had any side effects from it except for a little extra pain that lasted only a few seconds.

My kids see Chabbra (sp?) and Sait in Waldorf. My daughter had been seeing them since I brought her home from the hospital. We moved to Calvert after the boys were born, but before they came home, and I was going to find a pedi closer to here (just for distance, not any other reason) but Children's discouraged it, saying that the office I was going to was one of the best out here. Since I'm not going to question Children's, I stayed. And I'm glad I did - they've been phenomenal with the boys! I would highly recommend them.

We see Dr. Singh with Bayshore Pediatrics. We really like him and all the doctors in the practice. The wait times are never more than 15 minutes. They just moved into a brand new office in the new building next to Calvert Memorial Hospital. It's very nice. Also, since you asked about immunizations, when I took my daughter in for her physical earlier this month, she was due for 4 shots. He said he thought that was too much for one visit and that we could do 2 that day and then 2 the next time, to spread it out. Now, she is older (11), but I know they have always been very caring about my kids are always up on the latest information and research.

That's who we take our son to also. He really takes the time to listen to our concerns and to answer our questions. Yet, he still doesn't run behind. We also love the nurse and the office staff.

You're right, the new office is really nice. I was surprised that the waiting room is still really small. But luckily, we never have to wait long so it doesn't really matter.

U said u were in the mechanicsville area but if u wouldn't mind the extra 15 min to Lexington park there is a great doctor named Stephen cafferty, we drive almost an hour to see him. He is the most gentle man and cares about his patients, he goes the extra mile, and his staff is wonderfu! He is not just a peditrician he is also a family physician.

Hi there,
I'm currently using a pediatrician that everyone raved about when I had my daughter. We met with him prior to having her and he was totally cool with us seperating her vaccines so she wasn't getting 4/5 shots per visit. Well once I had her, everything was different. Everytime I went in his office and said I only wanted to do 2 shots they give me a lecture, not to mention his staff isn't the best. I really want to find a pediatrician that will work with us and who really "gives a damn" about the child and is not always worried about the insurance reinbursement. My daughter is almost a year old and I do not want to give the MMR shot until she is ready to go to school, but I know my current Doc will pitch a fit....

Anyone know of a good pediatrician in the area that really cares and is willing to work with the parents in regards to the shots?

Thank you

I know Dr Miller works with the parents on vaccine schedules and there is a lady doctor in Calvert whose name begins with an S that also happily does that. Good luck!

It might help to say who your using now so people don't recommend the same doctor. I LOVE LOVE Dr. Sheth but absolutely HATE his money hungry cheating the insurance companies out of money wife. I switched too.

:yeahthat: I am so glad someone agrees with me. He will soon find out that his wife will run all his patients away. I pay my copay every visit and everytime I get a bill for it! She even tried to keep my daughter from being seen once because she said we owed copays. It was her poor record keeping that caused that. No doctors office should ever turn away a sick child because money that is owed.

I use Dr. Sheth myself. I have used him for 11 years. You do need to keep very good track of your insurance payments and copays to them. His wife does try to double bill insurances and copays. I note on every CHECK I write them for copays the date of the visit and which kid its for.

I went in armed with my insurance papers one time, and showed her that it had been paid and that I owed NOTHING. Even on the bill it had two differe amounts that I owed. She comes back with sorry, I made a mistake and billed the insurance company twice.

Dr. Dhillons office is the same way from what I hear, his wife does the same stuff with billing.

Alot of parents think/feel/know whatever, that giving multiple shots at once causes Autism.

Well, Sheth's wife does it consistently. I went in armed with every EOB from my insurance and my daughter's father's insurance (she is covered by us both) I had an excel spread sheet noting the date, what his insurance paid and what they wrote off, what my insurance paid and what they wrote off, what co-pay I paid, what $$ total was collected for that one visit. This wasn't just one visit, this was 2 years worth. For $75 office visit, typically she collected $110 - $125 total, sometimes more. Then she had the nerve to tell me they wouldn't see my sick kid because she had a balance on her account? Are f'ing kidding me???? She needs to be turned into the insurance commission for fraud. PERIOD! BTW, she threw me out of the office and wouldn't look through my documentation because she was too busy. :killingme

Dr. Sheth and I have gone round and round about the vaccines. He actually went so far as to tell me that I insulted him by suggesting that he didn't want what was best for my baby. I mean, isn't the logical implication then that, because we disagreed, that I was not doing what was best for my baby?
He also told me that he couldn't be our doctor if I didn't vaccinate. Well, I didn't budge (I don't allow all of the vaccines, and the ones I do are only one shot at a time) and lo and behold he is still our doc.
I'm pregnant again, and the fact is, I'm not entirely sure I want to go through the machinations with him again, but I don't know that there is a better choice in St. Mary's County.

but I don't know that there is a better choice in St. Mary's County.

There isn't much of a choice... we live in Hollywood and after seeing Dhillon twice and having to wait over 2 hours to be seen with a sick child each time, we are getting ready to transfer to someone in La Plata (Jaime Ready or Reedy I think is her name? She was recommended to me by a friend.. I don't think she is a doctor but she works under a doctor, and I have found practitioners to be just as good, if not better sometimes, than the actual doctor they work for).

I've heard horror stories about Sheth's office... most of them regarding the long wait and his wife/billing situations. I didn't know he was strict about vaccines, but that is another reason why I won't even try him. We are past the major 'vaccine' stage with the kids but I am thinking about having another one, and I am not going to argue with a doctor about the vaccine schedule. I did one at a time (with both kids prior - military pediatrician had no problem with it) primarily so that if they had a reaction to it, I would KNOW where the reaction came from. I nursed both but don't eat eggs and I was concerned about possible egg allergies - thankfully that wasn't an issue.

If we have another one, I will still do one at a time. To be honest, I'd rather not vaccinate at all... but I do think it's important to be protected against diseases like polio and pertussis (especially as young babies... pertussis can be awful). I really dislike all of the 'junk' in vaccines... everything from formaldehyde, used as a preservative, to 'monkey kidney tissue' (yes you read that right - it's in the 'pediarix' vaccine...) and I will not budge when it comes to giving more than one at a time - one shot of formaldehyde a month is enough, I'm not giving my baby 5 shots of that junk at one time. If we were out shopping in the grocery store and saw the crap that is in or used to make vaccines on the labels of food, I think the majority of us would not buy the product for our families to eat... :shocking:

In case anyone is curious, from the CDC's website:
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/excipient-table-2.pdf

Sorry, but even in 'trace amounts' I hate to think that I have to inject that stuff into my babies (and into myself if I need a vaccination) - but the thought of my children contracting a disease like polio is worse. It's rare, but I could never live with myself if my kids got extremely sick from a preventable disease. So formaldehyde it is... just one dose at at time. :otter:

You know more than the doctor's do, I'd just stop taking your kids to any doctor, and make your own vaccinations..

But thanks for leaving Dr Sheth, means less waiting for us when we need to take bubba in..

Yeah, I agree with you about all of the ingredients in vaccines; I've studied up on them myself. (and itsbob, you don't need to have a medical degree to see what the vaccine ingredients add up to, I wish you and bubba the best of luck)
Pertussis is one of the vaccinations I do use, but in my research I have found that in my own childrens' circumstances (they are breastfeed for over a year, they are not in daycare, and we even homeschool) they are at negligible risk for the majority of vaccines.
