I realize now that with pay per view and dvds people may not go to the movies as much but wouldnt it be great to get one of those really nice movie theatres down here with the stadium seating and reclining seats..I realize this would be a vast improvement from the dump of a theatre we have now...I mean they are building all this other stuff why not a new movie theatre????????

Let me go out on a limb here...

You weren't around when 235 was 2 lane and the all-you-could-eat at Evans was $12.95, were you?

Get up the road to enjoy those moving pictures. They're the work of the devil anyway. Right, Momma Rugg?

There use to be two places around town, Bethesda Cinema and Draft and Arlington Cinema and Draft. They were great. They had tables and waitresses that would bring pitchers of beer and munchies (ie: pizza, wings, nachos)And you got to see a movie. Saw "Good Mornin Vietnam" there. It was a blast. Anyone know if either is still open??

Drive-in Theater.

I built a theater in Silver Springs that has the stadium and reclining seats. It's so much better thatn Waldorfs theater. The screens are so much bigger, Sound is a lot better. They even have these little ATM looking machines that spit your tickets out

You know, I would go to a movie if I didn't have to put up with unruly thug teenagers. A theater like Gumby described would be perfect - over 21 only!

Folks need to remember that bigger theaters will bring higher costs. I caught at movie at that theater Memorial weekend... it's $9.50 a ticket.... I spent 28.50 for me and my 2 kids to see "over the hedge"... That was more than I spent to treat them to dinner. I'm glad they were still full from dinner because the cost of popcorn and soda caused sticker shock as well. :faint:

At the Majestic?
I always get in for free. Last year I took like 9 people up there and we were in line to buy tickets, the general manager gave us passes.

Our company did alot for this theater so they could open early and it is nice that they show us appreciation still a year later.

Yep.... $9.50 a ticket at the Majestic... that equates to $38 just for tickets for a family of four. :ohwell:

Have you been to the AFI theater a block over from that? They show lots of classic movies. We rebuilt that a few years ago as well. I have never seen a movie in that one but it seems neat that they have all those old movies

I practically lived there for a little over a year. I was working 14-16 hour days. Heck sometimes I'd work two days in a row. I got to know a lot of people once we started opening stores up. I used to eat lunch at Macaroni Grill, Dinner at Eggspectation then sometimes i'd hit Austin grill for a change

My absolute favorite place for dinner is the Mexican restaurant across the street from the silver diner.

This talk about Silver Spring and the Silver diner and movie thatres reminds me that way back when, Silver Spring had the Silver theatre. My mother took me and my sister there to watch Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music when they came out. Might have seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang there too. The popcorn and sodas were scandalously expensive - a bag of popcorn was probably $.50!

Hmm neve went there. Usually stayed closer to the theater. I started working there a couple months before the first piece of steel was erected. I stayed on the theater project for about 6 months then was switched to the garages, then the tall office building where red rock is at.

I really enjoy visiting Silver Spring. It's also a great place to catch the metro and hit many other places without having to worry about driving or parking. Sis is very happy living and working there. She eventually hopes to buy a small house in the area.

I could never live in a acity like that. I need wide open spaces, woods, and fields. It is a nice area, that dang MS13 gang got us pretty good for a while but other than that it seems ok. I like the places around there.

Well, don't cry....what about Lusby/Solomons.....not a thought of a real movie theatre, much less that anachronism, a Book Store! Just more do-nuts to make us even fatter, and tanning places to tan our flab....it is still the boring boonies down here, in spite of a new Food Lion,,,,,,where Senior Citizens still have to haul their heavy dog food bags and coke cartons over the ends of the counters.....
