Anyone ever have trouble cancelling EZ Pass?

I have no idea what the issue is over there, but they can't seem to do a simple thing.

I've sent a cancellation request in July 2013. I called and cancelled November of 2013.

I thought everything was great, up until I got another statement saying it's a negative balance.

Sent ANOTHER cancellation request today, and e-mailed them to STOP sending me this ####. This is one of those times I'm glad I wrote down all the confirmation and service request numbers.

I wish they didn't nickel & dime you to death. I hate paying tolls and dealing with stopping at the toll booth, but I hate paying fees for the privilege of saving someone else (SHA) money by not having to employ a person at the booth, on top of paying a fee to use a road/bridge.

So, I pay the toll and stop at the booth. All the toll booth attendants were very friendly on a recent trip to NE...even the ones in NYC.

It's all a crap shoot. At my previous employer, the Company gave me one under my name. Worked fine. When I left the company, I turned it in. When I went to work for another firm, I was instructed to obtain a new EZpass and run it through a company CC. In setting it up, the system wouldn't let me get a new one because it said my tag was linked to another code. The only pass I had was with the first company but when I reached out to them, they said it had long since been cancelled. The EZpass group was of no real help but ultimately I was told to FAX over a company of my registration provide my tag was titled to me along with a letter stating my tag should NOT be linked elsewhere.

I did that but EVERYTIME I send it over, the fax gives a busy signal. When I tell them that, they don't understand why yet - they seem to be the ONLY people in the US who don't have email. I can easily scan/email the same documents. This has been going on 3 months. I end up using my wife's EZpass when I need one for the time being.

We had a prepaid EZ Pass that we picked up at a rest stop in NJ. I thought going prepaid would save us the hassle of when we no longer needed but no such luck. They harassed me for years over it. They over drew the account with service charges and then started charging over draw fees. It finally ended up getting close to $200 in just service and overdraw fees. I refused to pay and eventually they just quit sending the notices. Probably on my credit but I figured I would fight that battle when the time came.

So, I'm not the only one.

It's like a gang. Once you're in, it's blood out.

It says to give 30 days for the cancellation to take affect. We'll see if I get another statement.

The problem is when you want to close the account. There are articles about the continued charges that keep accumulating on accounts people think k they have closed.

Because without it, you pay $6.00 vs. $2.10 to cross the Harry Nice (or any) toll bridge.
So that is the price of freedom these days?

But I really love the "Disputes" section, bold added emphasis, giving up all your rights for a little convenience.

Also, here is how to properly terminate.

VIII. DISPUTES
You hereby authorize E‑ZPass Maryland to decide every question or issue in connection with or related to this Agreement, including, without limitation, the imposition of tolls, fees, or other charges incurred, applied or stated for the use or misuse of your transponder or Account. You may dispute the imposition of charges or fees related to your Account verbally or in writing to the E‑ZPass Maryland Service Center. Such dispute must be made within one hundred twenty (120) days from the date the transaction is posted to your Account.

IX. TERMINATION

In order to terminate this Agreement and voluntarily close your Account, you may:
Access your E‑ZPass Maryland Account at www.ezpassmd.com and submit a request stating your intent to close your Account and terminate this Agreement;
Send a written request stating your intent to close your Account and terminate this Agreement;

:bawl: :baby:

Here's a novel idea: Don't get an easy pass, pay the $6.00 vs. $2.00 and be inconvenienced waiting in the "pay by cash" lines. Or if you want your freedom that has been so horribly ripped from you, sell your car and walk or ride a bike. Let us know how that works out for ya. :bubble:

If you dont want to get your EZ pass from one of the bad issuers like MD and and NY-Thruway, get it from one of the hassle-free no-fee issuers like Del-DOT.
I'll be heading up to NJ in an hour, wouldn't want to do that trip without EZ-pass.

Not really a problem , just go on line and remove the transponder or transponders from the account .

Done that, 3 times. Called once, sent an e-mail, and STILL keep getting statements. I've been trying to cancel since summer of 2013.

So yea, it is a problem.

If it is prepaid how do they know who has it? Isn't the point of prepaid not having to attach to a credit card?

Cancelled one I had in NJ for 20 years and got a Delaware one a few weeks ago. Had to send back the transponders.

Video surveillance cameras are located at all plazas to record toll violations. So much for freedom.

That's what I thought, that was my whole point of going with a prepaid but you had to link it to your tag number so they knew which vehicle it went with.

Looks like one of the areas where Illinois is better than Maryland...our Midwest EZ Pass is good through 2019, no hassle use and re-fill.
