Anyone have a Zumo 550?

I'm not 100% about the Zumo, but the other XM capable GPS units you needed to buy an additional antenna to use the XM.. Antenna can run upwards of $200.

The experience you describe sounds like the same company out of NY that sells Digital Cameras. GREAT prices, but they tear the camera apart and sell it to you in pieces.

Try CycleGadgets.com. They usually have great deals on Motorcycle GPS'.

Pete, the dude from NY was blowin' smoke. Good thing you ditched him.

The Zumo 550 doesn't need any special SD card, but they do have a limitation on the max card capacity (I believe it's 8gb max). I have a Plain Jane Sandisk 2gb card in mine. The SD card is used to store MP3s, big maps, and other data. The Zumo has an internal memory of 2gb. Also, you don't have to send anything anywhere to get updates. Just go on Garmin's site and download them as they're available. The downloads are free. You might have to pay a fee for certain maps, but I haven't needed to do so yet. My 550 is updated with all the latest software and firmware, and it didn't cost anything extra.

I bought my Zumo 550 from Amazon for $666.79. It's one complete kit, and includes all the motorcycle-specific hardware i.e., mount, cradle base, etc., a car mount, moto power cable, car power cable, A/C charger, nuts, bolts, and so on. I bought an extra cradle, moto mount, moto base, and power cable for my other bike from gpscity.com. Their prices were good, and aside from a slight argument re: their shipping mistake, they made things right and re-shipped a missing cradle. Anyway, the Amazon package has everything you need for one bike and one car installation. Software is pre-loaded with North American cities and maps, and is pretty comprehensive.

I field-tested the Zumo this past July 4th weekend on a trip to northern PA in rain, bumpy roads, detours, and heat. It performed flawlessly, and saved my butt when I hit a huge slowdown heading into Breezewood. The detour it recalculated sent me through some very nice countryside I hadn't seen before, and I only lost a few miles and a little time. It worked like a charm, and I'm very satisfied with its performance. It's also very simple to use, too. Once you get it, join zumoforums.com - it's an outstanding info resource on all things Zumo.

BTW, the 450 has all the performance of the 550, just minus the Bluetooth, XM satellite, and text-to-speech features - all at a lower price.

Hope this helps.

I sincerely doubt I can make that trip before sore ass takes over and I set a more direct route :lmao:
I tried going all the way down the Parkway last year. Riding on Thursday was great, running about 50-60 mph. That road just flows at that speed.
Friday the tourists showed up with SUVs and campers and they were doing under the speed limit :ohwell: Very boring, broke out the map and found an alternate route

Check BestBuy. Some people are reporting that they are going for <$600 there now, but it depends on the store.

BTW, I have one and have the XM antenna for it too. It was really nice to have on travel. Now I just need to set it up on the bike.
