We'll be moving there soon. Just curious about the school mainly. Also wondering if anyone who lived there would be willing to snap a pic of our future home and send it to me?

Good news, new homes!!!

Construction of 169 news units (Lovell Cove which will be replacing Lovell Court) has begun and is targeted for completion during Summer of 2010.

I've driven through there and it's a really nice looking community, and a stone throw away from the Marina!!!

Once Upon a Time...
I moved here in Sept.
Are you moving into a 4 or 3 bdrm? I might have somepics on my computer of our 4 bdrm before we moved furniture in.
Neighborhood VERY quiet. Love that the kids can play & be safe.
Marina & small beach within walking distance.
My kids go to Green Holly & Spring Ridge.
Any questions, just ask. Even PM me if you want.
Welcome! :howdy:

Thanks for the replies all! I'm happy to hear it's nice and we'll likely be happy. I know you can survive anything temporarily but having good housing helps. lol I'm really excited about moving there. We're coming from VA Beach so I know it'll be a HUGE change but I'm also originally from a dinky town in Southern MI so it won't be anything I haven't experienced before.

We'll be moving into a 3 bedroom. MegRose, I'll send you a private message with the address. I'm just curious about the outside and I don't feel like driving the 4 hrs just to peek. ;)

My kids being able to play and be safe sounds fabulous! We've been in an upstairs apartment for 3.5 years. It's very hard to just let them be kids and even letting them ride a bike is such a pain. I'm not a big fan of hauling bikes down to two sets of stairs. lol

I lived in the old Lovell Court back in the day- same location and all in all very nice, if a bit run down and no garage. I drove through after they finished Lovell Cove and all I can say is wow! Nicest E-housing I've seen.

Bullying has been an issue in all Southern Maryland schools. St. Mary's schools are no different. However, the company any child keeps is the difference between a problem free day or potential trouble. Here in Maryland bullying has become such as issue, schools are now required to report it under Maryland law. Unforunately, many parents are unaware ( or don't want to be aware of) the bullying that goes on in our schools.

NAS Pax has an excellent school liason officer with Dawn Simpson located at the Fleet and Family Support building. I have seen many parents drop kids off and use the school as a baby sitter and not the educational institution that it is. In the case of some parents working two jobs and not home to provide the home environment for the child, this adds an extra concern for the development of the child.

The housing area is brand new. The one thing no one seems to bring up here is your kids will be going to school off base in Lexington Park. Those schools are penal colonys.

I appreciate knowing that ahead of time. We've not had to deal with bullying of any kind here but my kids are only (almost 6) and 7. I'll definitely keep myself as involved as possible in making sure they are ok. My daughter is so big for her age. Very tall and all around bigger than anyone she goes to school with so the bullying does concern me. I worry about her more as she moves into second grade. Kids grow up and learn so much more of the bad stuff now than they ever did when I was a kid. It's sad. :(

Oh, bulshi3. Have any of your children attended those schools? What do you base that statement on? Mine have, and have been just fine.

It's all relative. We moved up here from NC and my kid's elementary school is head and shoulders above his old school. And even that school wasn't completely awful. It's Lexington Park, not Detroit.

Drive by Spring Ridge middle school on any day and you will notice a county sheriff car parked out front. They have such problems they have a cop at the school all the time. This is a middle school. 10 to 13 year olds and they need a full time cop. Give me a break. They are hoods!

Ah, that's a great way to judge things:) You drove by and saw a police car there. Lots of data went into your judgement, didnt it. That officer splits his time between Spring Ridge and Esperanza, and nother does so between Leonartown and Margaret Brent.

I think perhaps having two children who have graduated from SRMS, one two years ago, one this year, I might have a bit more insight into it than you.

You're going to say you have a valid point because I left one letter off a word? Really? If that's all you have to bolster your point, I'm afraid you wont make much headway. :killingme
