I was just approved to adopt this pretty girl today! It's going to be a trial adoption at first though to see how well she and my cat will get along. Hoping they do!
It might take up to two weeks for them to get to know each other. She is a beautiful Animal. Congratulations. Tell us more about her.I was just approved to adopt this pretty girl today! It's going to be a trial adoption at first though to see how well she and my cat will get along. Hoping they do!

I think the name Chessie is nice. Will you be able to meet her soon? She's a 1 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Lab mix. I haven't met her yet, and its been delayed since she is staying with her foster until she's spayed on the 7th. I'm told that she's crate and house trained already, very eager to please and very intelligent.
I'm open to name suggestions. I haven't seen her personality yet, but I'm leaning towards Chessie. Her current name is Chanelle and I don't like it lol.
I'll also be trying to train her to go waterfowl hunting with my dad, so if anyone knows of any gundog trainers, thatd be very helpful!
is this dog going to be living in your house with you or you going to make it live outside like all the other hunters do. I bet if the rescue group catches wind of you using the dog to hunt they might turn you away and say sorry we saw this and its not allowed by our rules (dogs living outside and not being family pets and using them to hunt). all of the places i have gone through say they want the dog to be a family pet not one used to just hunt and be left outside 24/7 with no other interaction except when your dad hunts.
'
also i know of no dog trainers that will teach a dog to like the sound of a gun. if u were going to do this you need to get a puppy not a 1yr old dog who is used to being a family pet. Personally you should just do that in my books keep the dog as a family pet. if u want a hunting dog look for a breeder who has yellow/black labs and train it from a baby to learn to like the sound of guns etc not a 1yr old dog.

Please educate yourself better before you start accusing people of doing things that "aren't right for the dog"..
Of course she'll be an inside, family dog. Chessie's are working dogs and love to hunt. That's what they were originally bred for. Retriever is part of their breed name, afterall. If she's gun shy, I'm not going to force her to hunt, obviously. That's why I said "try to train her".. as in see if she likes it and would be any good at it. I was completely upfront with the rescue, and they had zero problems with it, so thanks for that concern. I've seen enough of your posts to know you're confrontational and not an expert on all things dogs. I just felt the need to clarify a few things you so kindly pointed out. Thanks!

Not all hunting dogs live outside. Please don't generalize. My family and most of my friends that hunt with dogs keep them inside the house as pets also. One of my co-workers sleeps with his dog and he is one of the smartest hunting dogs that I have met.
PM me if you need help... I will get you started and get you on the right track.
I do understand where you are coming from! we should go walk the dogs together.. and I will bring my gun and just start shooting
I will be getting her on the 9th or 10th, after her spay surgery. And then I just may take you up on that after she's had a chance to settle in!
Ditto, we have Friends that have Beagles who are Hunters, and they stay inside, an Friend that has a Tennesee Walker, also inside, and another that has Black Lab that is inside. Next time you have a thought you should just write it on a piece of paper and flush it down the toilet.is this dog going to be living in your house with you or you going to make it live outside like all the other hunters do.
