Are you ready for this???

Simon, my soon to be 14yo Siamese is about 15-16lbs. or so. He is not very active anymore, but manages to make it up the townhouse stairs to meow for his breakfast at 5am every day. (EVERYday) He also goes downstairs to the ground level to the litter box at least several times a day. We only feed him 1/3cup dry (Purina Older Cat) food at 5am & 5pm. He spends the bulk of his day on our main level in the TH, but the Vet diagnosed him with arthritis last year, so we sprinkle 1 capsule of Dasuquin over his food every night.

He's just big-boned.

I think he is 14.4 lbs. but I'll have the vet check tomorrow afternoon provided he doesn't cancel our appointment. He knows he can bump me since it is just a well visit for any issue more pressing and I'll reschedule. This big boy was out playing, that's right, PLAYING in the snow this morning and is now pooped out. He isn't lazy so I guess he is just on the verge of being a very large cat.

Our old girl is 9 1/2 years old and I was concerned that her last visit was going to be her last. :ohwell: She has had a horrible time getting around but the vet hit her with a steriod shot and she's doing very well now. Now the shot has taken away her discomfort, it will help the Dasuquin we give her twice a day work better. The vet thinks she could be around several more years to despite her poor kitten health. We trapped her off of our back deck and she was feral. She is actually a very sweet cat that will stay and watch TV with me all day. I'm the one that has trouble staying put for long.

I have a 13 year old cat that has had severe arthritis for years. I tried Cosequin, Dausequin, acupuncture, laser therapy, pain meds, (won't use steroids as I don't want him to become diabetic) etc. and nothing helped. I started him on Glyco-Flex III Feline Bite-sized chews (from Drs. Foster and Smith catalogue website) and within 6 weeks he was no longer limping and actually ran through the snow last week.

Thanks for the tip because I am considering switching. I have her on double-doses of the Dasuquin and although it is helping, I swear the dog bites my dad gave me saying "yeah they are okay for the cat" worked better. Upon further inspection, it doesn't say it is okay for cats but the ingredients in the dog chews are better and cheaper. What you are recommending has great reviews and is much, much cheaper than what I am currently spending for. She is getting around so much better.

Update: My big boy is just under 14 lbs. and is said to have 10-30 percent more growth to be expected. The vet has put me on notice that he will be a very big cat when he is done growing. The vet was thrilled with his overall health and said he had a cat just like him growing up. He wasn't concerned that he is a little chubby because he said he is very active and obviously eating what he is hunting outside. He embarrassed me when the vet asked him if he wanted a snack and just about devoured him trying to get the bag out of his hand. He acted like I hadn't fed him in weeks. :ohwell:

Most critters have a way of making us look bad like that. You should see how the chickens act when I walk in the pen with something in my hands. They get crazy and jump up to take it out of my hands LOL I need to video them going that - it's like they have been starved ..... and they have food in the feeder ....
