Sheriff's Office will lock up these guys eventually. Once they are placed in the County jail, then they can get 3 meals a day, heating during the cold winter months, air conditioning during the summer, a bed whereas, 1500 homeless folks don't have one in St. Mary's County, dental and health care, access to a computer lab, access to a library, and of course don't let me forget their OWN BASKETBALL COURT right in the jail! Don't believe it, go by the Correctional Center and ask the supervisor of our facility there. What incentive do the folks that do this stuff have to continue to do the good thing when our jail is a COUNTRY CLUB??!!

At least they probably won't have access to whatever drugs they are buying with their spoils cuz I doubt they're carrying out robberies to put a roof over their heads or food on the table.:bunny:

The victim was shot in the area of Timber Valley Ct. He drove to the Shell and called the cops. Unclear if it was his residence or someone he knew.

Call went out at 2129 for the police and 2130 for EMS.

All the more reason to pass CCW "Shall Issue" for Maryland. THAT way these punks that do this kinda crap won't know who's packin' and who isn't; and they MIGHT think twice before doing something stupid.

From my experience I do not think the tight CCW laws make a difference back there. In that area it is a good chance people are packing regardless of the law.

You forgot cell phones, You have to treat them like kings if not when they are released back on the streets they will act like criminals! I know of folk who will do crazy stuff just to keep warm and get a hot meal and a bed at the free hotel.

Drugs? St. Mary's County doesn't have a drug problem (lol). I have looked in to the growing problem with teen crime for some time now. The County loves to tell me that poverty is behind teen crime. No programs to put young people on the right road. Our public schools are considering spending millions on artifical turf at our 3 high schools when this money could be better spent to develop programs to keep kids from (drugs) and out of trouble. The most horrible fact is that once young people go deep down the wrong road, they rarely find a way to turn around. Many just go deeper with no end of the bumpy road they are on until the have an incident that results in their death by the time they reach their early 20s. It's a matter of time until our fantastic law enforcement folks get these idiots. When they eventually end up in jail, less than 5% go off of the drugs they are on. Sometimes, while in jail, they talk to others, and spread their method of crime to others, or take advantage of the weight room which I forgot to mention in my last thread, that will help them get stronger until they get out. That way they can run faster from the police (but not the K-9) and could be in better shape than some of our more "hefty" Deputies. Therefore, our "programs" that are in place for the inmates actually "ENDANGER" our police officers!!

A woman's gun??!!
I'm 5'-3", 150 lbs, female, and I'm definitely no bad-ass.
I own a 45, and I can shoot it no prob. :nono:

Just stating fact.

The .38 was in the inventory for a single purpose.. It was the handgun women (and our manly pilots) carried. We went from .45 to 9mm for one reason.. ONE gun in our inventory that both sexes could handle and control.

I know a LOT of women more than capable of shooting a .45, but the fact remains.

That's because the liberal pantywaists don't think prison should be punitive but rehabilitating..

They should be more like college campuses, than prisons.

We need to punish criminals to make sure if and when they get released they do NOT want to come back.. You are NOT going to rehabilitate someone that's already an adult, they are who they are, and they are probably WHO they are because nobody in their lives believed in consequences for your actions OR punishment for bad actions.

I'd bet if they had the right to perform urinalysis on prisoners (don't know for sure, but betting they can't) they'd find they are STILL getting drugs.

Bob, I have 100 rounds of 9mm, for my German Luger(1938), that were, or are considered "hot loads", or so I was informed.(Handloads)

A larger grain bullet, "soft tip", and a few more grains of powder in the shell casing. Not what you can buy off the shelf at the Tackle Box.

Is is a lethal firearm, for home defense, in your opinion?

DO you know why the .45 was originally invented/ developed?

To prepare for battle, the Moro used a combination of body binding with leather, narcotics, and religious ritual to put themselves into an altered state of consciousness which left them insensible to injury. Soldiers found that their revolvers chambered in .38 Long Colt simply would not stop the Moro. It should be noted that their .30 Krag rifles didn't do a whole lot better against these warriors.

After testing and development they found a well placed .45 could stop them in their tracks.

Sounds like they prepared for battle, the same way criminals prepare..

I'll stick with my .45.

The history of it? No, not really. I've never felt the need to research it.

But then again, you did not answer my question either....first things first.

Kind of Moronic to pick a self defense weapon without doing the research..

Seeing how your LIFE will depend on it when the need arises.

So, you don't consider it lethal, is that what you are suggesting?

First off. extra powder isn't the answer.. the 9mm round is already too fast, making it faster out of the barrel makes it a worse round, not a better round.

Compared to the .45 the 9 is at about 1200 - 1300 fps, the .45 about 800 - 900.. so being that the .45 already has better stopping power, the velocity isn't something that needs to be fixed. Adding powder is just a waste of money, and make the gun just that much harder to control (ie, the chances are reduced for the much needed placement of the 2nd and 3rd round that we KNOW you'll need to hit the target with)

The "soft" tip may help a little bit, but still won't give it near the capability of a .45.

With the low velocity, the weight of the round the .45 will stop whatever it is you are shooting it at, and the round itself has limited penetration.. meaning the chance of shooting through your drywall, and your neighbors drywall and shooting your neighbor with an errant round are much decreased..

So NO, the 9mm is not a preferred home/ self defense weapon.

There are varying levels of lethality..

A knife is lethal, doesn't mean I'm going to defend myself with one against a crimimal armed with a gun.

BTW, I did not "pick" this firearm; my father handed it down to me, some 35 years ago. He brought it back home, from WWII Germany.

I have practiced with it several times, and the recoil is not that jarring. It will discharge as fast as you can pull the trigger. Two hands on the grips, aim for the middle of the torso.........bingo!
