Hmmm....I looked up NASA and they say this:
NASA has already issued warnings that the sun will reach its most active period of its 11-year cycle this year and into 2014. However, solar flares could continue well into 2020.

I won't mind sitting in the Target parking lot to call my mom once a week if I get some extra spening moneys out of it.

I "chatted" with their representative this morning and when I said I'd look into other service options in my area because my contract was up, I got a $200 credit.

I guess I am too nice. I got to file a report...got nadda in return. But my contract is up this month...they better do some fancy foot work and fix it!

I'm tempted to apply the credit towards a new phone but then my no contract leverage wouldn't apply.

I'm considering getting a Trac Phone. I'm told that they lock onto and use whatever tower is strongest at any time and they aren't strictly AT&T or Verizon or Sprint. The pay-as-you go thing might be a PITA, but at least I wouldn't be bound by a contract and an expensive monthly bill. I was looking at the Trac phones in the grocery store, and there are like 4 or 5 plans and types of phone. For a guy like me who pretty much uses the phone just as a phone, with very occasional texting and nothing else, I can see where this could work.

My daughter and I both have boost phones, $45 flat fee a month, unlimited everything. Never a dropped call. I even still have my Maryland number which I've had for 6 years or more. If you make 5 payments in a row on time, your bill goes down 5 bucks. When I first got my phone they didn't do this, my bill way $60 a month, it's now down to 45.

Very good. I should do some more research - thanks for the note on your experience!

I pay Verizon a small fortune every month. Service is good but it still makes me cringe.

I had unlimited data on 2 phones grandfathered from the old plans. When I upgraded phones we lost it and went on 2Gb shared because historically I rarely ever hit 1.7Gb. That was fine for a month or so then I got alerts that I hit 50% and 75% well befor ethe month was over. I upped it to 6Gb and figured that was good. Just got an alert today that I hit 90%. I only have 4 days until the period ends but still how does one go from never passing 1.75Gb a month to 6Gb?

I can only imagine that either (a) You're being ripped off with false data usage tracking or (b) You're actually increasing your usage with the idea you'll never reach your limit. I mean, 1 GB is a LOT of data.

I think I need to examine Boy's data usage. If it is what I expect I will be taking his phone and deleting the Pandora ap that he claims he never uses.

Do you guys use your WiFi at home?

I usually go through about 3GB of data month but I don't have internet at home so I'm all 3G all the time.

Yes a wireless card but it does not reach his room very well evidently because I just downloaded usage by line

Me: .47GB
Boy 4.93 GB

I texted him and told him to delete the Pandora AP from his phone and NEVER touch it again

Wow, I never realized Pandora ate up that much data.

I assume it's Pandora, he is almost 17 so it could be streaming porn. :twitch:

It is very possible that it is Pandora. I checked my data usage for May-June, when I did a lot of driving and my usage was only 933 of 2048 MB used.

I only use my data plan when driving and listening to Pandora. I made two trips to BWI and back. Plus driving to the commissary 4 times. About a total of 12 hours of data usage.
