At what age do you feel a child should know that Santa is not real? I reallize it may be different for every child but as a general rule?

I think by age 9/10, kids know he's not "real." I still "believe" in Santa and told my daughter that as long as she believes, she'll still get Santa gifts.

It all depends on the kid....my 2 oldest found out that there was no "Santa" when my oldest was about 9(the other one was 6) and they told my next one the following year(he was 5)

My girl found out when she was about 6 or 7 and my youngest has never "believed" in Santa

This is also my case. My daughter is 10 and claims to believe. I really am not sure how to read into this one. I can usually read her very well and know exactly what she is thinking but on this one I have no idea.

My 8 YO knows, but she chooses to believe anyway. Let a kid be a kid.

Well she has stated that some kids say he's not real...then she says...Santa's real, right mama?
I say, do you believe, she says yes and I say well then he's real to you.. don't worry about what other's tell you.
Guess I'm avoiding the question...:lmao:

He's not real? :bawl:
Dear Catt,
Your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Catt, whether they be men's or children's, are little.
In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.
Yes Catt, there is a Santa Clause. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Clause. It would be as dreary as if there were no Catts.
There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.
Not to believe in Santa Clause! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Clause, but even if you did not see Santa Clause coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Clause, but that is no sign there is no Santa Clause.
The most real things in the world are those that neither children or men see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in this world.
You tear apart the baby's rattle to see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart.
Only faith, poetry, love, romance can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernatural beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Catt, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.
No Santa Clause? Thank God he lives, and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Catt, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

my 10 year old still believes in Santa. I have explained to her that next year a lot of 6th graders would probably pick on her if she said that she believed in him.....that it's best to keep it a little secret. and yes, she still believes in the toothfairy and the easter bunny as well. if someone can let me know, this is a really good question.

oh, and just for the record....I still believe in the magic that goes with Santa!:pete:

 There really is no reason to tell the children the Santa lie in the first place.

"Do not bare false witness" - includes - do not lie to children.

The kids will still love the Christmas tree and the music, decorations, food, family, all of Christmas does not need lies.

What would Jesus want done?
