That POS, SOB, ex SIL of mine is clueless!
His loss is our gain. What a dumbass he is. 6 on a plane by herself! HELL NO~!

16 yes, maybe, but never 6!

When I got that message I was dancing with Jake for JOY in the family room!! Because I am so selfish when it comes to the DQ. But the last time I talked with her, she couldn't wait to go to the White House. She said she was gonna pick out her bedroom!!! :lmao:

Here's your sigh, Josh! :stupid:

Yep; she is officially staying home for christmas now.
CC, you did the right thing. 6 years old is too dayum young to fly alone. You never know who they are going to seat her with on the aircraft, and if there was an emergency, who's going to ensure she gets off the aircraft. Your ex is a real azzhole. Sounds like my ex. :killingme

I do not think I would let my 6 yr old fly alone..I flew alone when I was 10 but that was 30 years ago. I know you can take them to the plane and "hand them" to the stewardess then she escorts them off the plane to the waiting party. They do not expect the child to do it alone. With flight like it is now I would hope they watch them like a hawk..you are not wrong in feeling as you do...I would have a hard time letting my 15 yr old go..

I wouldn't dream of putting chicklet on a plane alone this day in age.

I do remember my sister and I, then 7 and 5, flying to from California to Mississippi and back in the 70's, and as Appy stated, being handed off directly to the stewardess and then to family members.

The worst part was for the stewardess. Apparently, I slugged her in my sleep when she tried to wake me up. :ohwell:

The cost of gas would never equal the $500.00 dollar cost of the ticket.

Good point. Even at today's prices there's NO WAY he would have to lay out $500 in gas. Gas price is a smokescreen for your ex to hang on to your daughter for Christmas.

You have been affirmed and the whole world just LOVES you now!

would you consider letting your kid fly alone on an airplane (direct flight from departure to destination)? DQ's dad (who's been supposedly planning for her to go with him to Florida for Christmas for 3 months) waited till the last minute to buy his tickets, and is now pitching a fit over the $500/ticket prices. So, he wants to put her on a plane alone, which at 6 years old (escort or no escort) is just too young, in my opinion. I offered to drive half way to NC, but he then pitched a fit about the price of gas. :duh:

I'd think no younger than 13-14 when a bit of common sence & general safety has set in for them to know right from wrong......but at 6 H**L No

I put my son on a plane when he was 7 to visit his grandparents. He has flown almost every summer since to visit them and he is now 15. Of course it was a direct flight without stops. Anything else and I would not have sent him alone. The airline was VERY helpful. He used to love it. Of course now he is bummed that at 15 he doesn't get to board first, etc.

I guess it also depends on who is waiting at the other end for the kid. If that person is not reliable then I would have doubts about sending a child under 13.

I'm glad your DQ isn't flying to Florida by herself. 6 years old is still way to little in my opinion. Not only what has happend in the past but with Christmas coming up, everyone is in such a hurry and she could get lost in the process. If it makes any sense, I live in Florida and I would rather go to the White House instead of Florida too!

I hope you both have a very Merry Christmas!

My 13 year old flew by himself over the summer from Orlando to BWI. The airline was great. They let the parent take the child to the gate and wait and his grandmother was at the other end. They are delivered by an airline rep who checks ID before releasing the kid. My son made out fine and felt all "grown up." My daughter is 8. NO WAY IN H*LL would I let her fly alone.

Tell the azzwipe if he wants to see her, he can meet you 1/2 way or come all the way to pick her up, anything beyond that is non-negotiable. Also, tell Mr. Money Conscious.....that in addition to the $500 ticket...he has to pay, I believe it was $50, for the escort fee. He most certainly could drive to get her much cheaper.

I'm certain your daughter will have a great time at the Whitehouse! I wish I was going too. She'll have a very Merry Christmas with or without dad.

My daughter is 8 and we discussed her flying to orlando to spend a couple days with me at the end of my work trip in January. Parent are allowed inside the gates now when dropping and picking up children. At 8 we think she is responsible enough to fly and has been on a plane prolly as much as I have. I would just feel bad for the person she sits next to as she doesnt stop talking.
