Saw this article too. Kind of scary that there was another passenger and a kid in the vehicle (or thought to be at least) as well.

I'm curious as to the child in the back seat? also, I hate to be Debbie Downer, but doesn't a 6 year old love all the attention when they tell a story, and especially when it gets SO much attention?

In this situation, I wouldn't take any chances as to whether the story was fabricated for attention.

Mine wouldn't just because he isn't an attention person. He shirks talking to people as much as he can.

This will definitely put me on guard with regard to letting him loose in the yard alone. I do that now and pop my head out every few mins to check on him.

There is security film footage to back up his 6-year old self story. What exactly are your doubting?

The kid in the back seat of the vehicle could have recognized the kid in the front yard as a classmate.

Now let's stop and think about this... the boy was uncomfortable with whatever transpired. He told his parents. His parents listened to what he had to say and agreed enough to call the police. The police listened to what he and his parents had to say... watched the video footage and were concerned enough to put out a press release in order to put parents on alert and to possibly find these people for additional questioning.

I'm just not seeing this all come about because little Johnny in the back seat knew little Billy in the yard and the parents wanted just wanted to shout, "Hey!"
