WHY WILL THEY NOT LET ANYONE START THE CARS??

Some of them do let you start them, but I have never seen one that you could actually drive the car or truck. You go early and check them out. Some of them have people in there just to raise the bids.

bought two cars from the one that used to be at waysons corner, which at the time was run by the same people as is at Richey marlboro rd and Marldboro Pike, I think. One I bought for My Brother[had a bad Tranny and The one I wanted ended up catching fire in the throttle body. I sold mine . My brother fixed his and it ran for a couple years after. Neither was any great deal. Now I'm seeing all these Gov. vehicles all over but I"m not sure which auction house they are coming from. Depending on what you pay for these, they could be a good deal, I doubt it though.

In My Opinion
These cars are being auctioned instead of sold through a dealer for a reason.
If they were in as good a shape as they want you to believe, the thing would not have gone from a dealer to a auction in the first place.
These are the cars that cant be moved for profit.

There is a gov't vehicle place on RT.5 in PG. It's on the SB side and IIRC it's just past that jacked up intersection with the lights about 50 yards apart.

Nope.

What I think you are talking about:
There is a used car dealership that specializes in ex-govt cars that is at the intersection of Moores Rd and Rt. 5 sb, about a mile north of Brandywine Rd.

They are not an auction house.

I thought copart did not sell to the general public?

Copart does sell to the public, they started that a couple of years ago. Look up their website and you can preview things there, they sell wrecks, repairables, and a few road worthy cars.

There is the Waldorf Auto Auction. They are located behind the old Embassy Dairy in Waldorf (Sorry - I'm bad with road names I go by landmarks, google them if you don't know where the Dairy was)They do have a site but I do not think that it is as well maintained as they would like it to be. They charge like $300 dollars to actually bid on cars, they call it their way of eliminating riff raff, the money does go to the purchase if you buy. I bought a 2001 VW Jetta with 98K miles on it there last summer, if you know about cars and what to look for (or know someone who does and take them with you) you can score a find every now and then. It is open daily and you can preview the cars during their normal operation hours. The auction takes place in their garage and all cars (except for some serious rags) are driven throught the garage.

I bought the Jetta for 3000 but with taxes and fees paid 3500 for it. I ended up putting new tires, brakes, and a steering rack on the car to get it through inspection. I ended up paying a total of 4200 from purchase, repairs, and tagging it. I have put 20K miles on the little blue bomber so far and only ran into a bad water pump (VW's of certain model years had plastic impellers that are a high failure item) so far. I cannot complain as otherwise I would be still driving my Suburban or Pickup for a daily driver and getting less than half the MPG that I get out of the VW.
