Baby Acne

yeah yeah
What cures have you found successful? If any.

I called the ped's office, and they said to keep her face moisturized and such- but not overly, to just put moisturizer (aveeno baby was recommended) every other day- along with not using any soap products on her face. Just water during the bath.

Have you found any others that would work well? I have been doing the above- but she still has the little white spots. Maybe there isnt anything I "can" do, and it just needs to run its course-- but figured those who aren't rookies at this could help me out.

Let it run its course. It will go away. Follow the docs suggestions w/ the baby aveno! :yay: And don't use everyday. Babies don't get dirty al that much yet. (except for their bottom) They don't need a bath every day yet.

Alright. Thanks. I appreciate it. And Yes, I give her a bath every other day. That is what I was told. So, I am pretty much following the instructor. Now this dry skin mess, with it flaking off.. anything I can do other than the aveno? Its getting dry on her scalp and everything- but they said it wasnt cradle cap...

And elaine- I guess the corn starch would dry them out? Assuming you would make it into a paste like form? I am not going to try it yet- but I will keep in mind if needed. thanks

Depends on what kind of rash it is. Gurl used to get rashes from breast feeding. The corn starch cleared it up. Not a paste...just rub a little on your fingertips then on the rash. Just a very light coat.

Its not really a "Rash" form persay, she has 3 small white dots on her chin and 1 on each cheek- around the area she breast feeds and has a pacifier. But there is no red.

I wouldn't worry about 5 little dots. She's doing good if that's all she's got. Just make sure you wash her face with a warm wash cloth after she eats.

baby skin is .. well .... new! It's getting used to all the new enviornments. Try a little aveno lotion. It sure can't hurt. Cradle cap looks like brown splotches on the head and you have to almost use your fingernail to get it out. My little one had a bit of that, but we got it taken care of w/ a few good washes and the soft bristle brush that we got form the hosptial If that doesn't work they say rub the head w/ vasoline and let it sit for a bit and then wash it out.

Just use the lotion and let things run the course. The acne will go away and the dryness will get beter :huggy:

Lotion can clog the pores and make it worse.

Doesn't sound like baby acne, just sounds like the normal newborn skin. The skin peels and sometimes they develop little pimples. You don't need to do anyting other than normal washing of the baby.

I never used lotion on the my babies' faces and didn't use lotion at all until my babies were older.

As for the flaking on the scalp..that's normal too. You can brush it with a baby brush and use a little baby oil and wash her hair with a gentle baby shampoo.

Most babies go through the "peely" stage. You may also see her skin peeling around her wrists and ankles.

I think bathing her every other day is a bit much. You can wipe her off really well..the neck and diaper area etc. but a complete bath every other day is too much really, especially in the winter...just dries out her skin. I'd clean her up every day but actually only give her a complete bath 2 times a week or so.

Baby acne is perfectly normal. Sweet little thing came out of her nice sterile enviroment into this bad dirty world! It'll clear Momma!

age.
This is your first kid, isn't it
First kid everything gets sterilized, by the third one, you'll take a pacifier away from the dog and stick it in your kid's mouth.

Congrats on the little one. I haven't been on here in ages and missed the announcement.
I was toldd the baby acne is just left over hormones from the mother. It goes away.
Try not to fixate on that - as previously stated, if that is the only thing wrong then you have it pretty good.
My little one, now 2 years old, had gas for 4 months and would scream bloody murder for 20-40 minutes 3 - 4 times a day.

My mother-in-law bugged me constantly about bathing my newborns daily, insisting it would dry out their skin. I told her I would rather they have dry skin than dirty skin. Sometimes immersion in a nice warm bath was the only way to get the diaper area clean. As you know, the consistency of breastfed baby diapers is not always easy to clean up with a wipie. All of mine got daily (at least) baths, as well as regular wash cloth cleanings. The acne comes and goes regardless. Follow your instincts and enjoy this special time with your baby.

You know how baby's sometimes lose their hair? Well, when my son was a baby I was giving him a bath and using that soft brush from the hospital on his head and when I rinsed the top of his head, alll his hair rinsed away too!!
He looked like he had male pattern baldness. My husband was so surprised when he came home from work. He still gives me hell about scrubbing Camerons hair off.
