Does anyone know of any bakeries in either Waldorf, Calvert, St. Marys, etc. that does wedding cakes. They must be certified through the board of health and not done out of a home. I am having a hard time finding a place to get my wedding cake. I have been to Sugar Shack and I am waiting on a price, but I want more options. Can anyone help?

Well I would love to use someone out of their home but the place I am getting married requires it to be health certified. Its b/c of liablility issues, such as someone brings a cake in and get food poisining and then they try and sue the hotel etc, understand it but I am having a hard time finding someone.

Try Carousel in Leonardtown. I don't no if they are Health Cert. They are located almost besides CVS. There use to be a printing press there but now it is Carousel. Will pm the number if interested?

If the place you are getting married has that requirement, ask them for referrals of places who are certified. If you are giving them your business, they should be willing/eager to refer you to an 'approved' baker.

Also, ask them if there's some sort of waiver you can sign freeing them of liability from the cake. Maybe that would solve your problem and open up more options.

Check with McKay's in Charlotte Hall. It's been 12 years since my marriage, but the lady that did mine (4-tier), did an excellent job...different flavors, and very delicious.

Might be out of your way, but Wigwam Bakery in Waldorf are good, and have heard there is a good bakery in LaPlata.

Yeah I really want to use Jenevas but they are asking almost 4.00 per slice. Its very expensive and I just can't see spending 500.00 on a cake but I will if I can't find anyone cheaper.

if you will
Doesn't the bakery in the Smallwood shopping center in Waldorf (where Safeway is) do wedding cakes? I forget the name of it off hand. I've had birthday cakes there, and they're good.

Dang! Mine was a 3 tiered homemade by a professional for only $50.00. Guess I lucked out.

Well I called Wildewood and the girl on the phone told me they only do the cream filled cakes and I have this vision of the center of my cake falling through. I am going to stop in and see them and just make sure but I didn't get a good impression on the phone. Water...who are you using?

Betty Crocker brownie mix goes for about $2 a box and yields at least 9 brownies or more depending on how you cut them. :bubble:

I don't get it. Everyone knows weddings are expensive when you go 'all out.' Why does everyone (generalizing -- not pointing an invisible finger to jeneisen!) try to 'cheapen' aspects of their 'big' special day? If you are doing a big wedding, it's gonna cost $$$. If you don't want to spend big $$$, keep it small. And what's with pricing a cake $4/slice? It's still a $600 cake! It's flour and water for crying out loud!

Personally, I'd have some heartburn laying down several hundred or thousand dollars for a dress and shoes I wear one day; $600 for a cake, $1600 for a videographer, God knows what for the reception, photographs, and the rest of the hoopla. Man, give me a silk tank-strapped dress from Hechts, some flip-flops and a beach in Mexico with my Mr. Right and keep it real. Makes me wonder sometimes who the wedding is for and the purpose of it all.

Well having a big wedding does cost a lot but no one wants to get ripped off either. I am spending the majority of the money on the pictures and video b/c thats what we will have forever to remember in our day. We are cutting costs on things like the cake and some decorations b/c I know I can't remember what the cake looked like at the last few weddings I went to so I would rather beef up the alchohol and pictures and make the evening more enjoyable for my guests as well as myself. We aren't have a huge wedding, about 125 - 150 guests. We decided to do a smaller more elegant affair and stay in our budget. I am not cheap and I don't have any problem spending money as long as I feel I am getting what I pay for. Thats all. I am just trying to compare and figure out what the best bargin is.

As far as the 1600.00 for a video, thats actually not a bad price for what you get. For the same thing I found for 2200.00 at a bridal show. Had I not shopped around, I would have paid 600.00 more for someone who I feel the quality wasn't as good as the cheaper guy.

Well, if I use Wildewood...they are not putting a filling in mine of any sort. Because of the exact reasoning. I dont want it to slide. Because it will still be hot. Ya know? Mine is just gonna be a devil's food cake with buttercream whipped on top (I dont like icing)

Now, I also, got a name yesterday of a cake person, who did this cake I saw in a picture while at the olde breton inn yesterday. It was the exact one I wanted. Her name is Isabelle Williams. she is loacated in the phone book I believe from what Patsy told me, under Donnie Williams...So you can give it a try.
