Jen, where is your reception being held? I have never heard of having your cake board certified. Is this something new? Is it in the actual contract or some strange rule because the reception provider wants you to have a cake made by them? I would think if it's an actual requirement they would be able to provide you with a list of acceptable cake makers.

Actually Sharon- now, some places are doing that. It is suggested to find this out anyway, but some places like hotels and such, are doing this, because they dont wanna be "accidently" slapped with a lawsuit.

Its at the JT Daugherty Conference center in Lxpk. They don't even do cakes and they had said the reason for it is b/c they are owned by Marriot and its their rule. Apparently someone tried to sue them in the past and this is their way of protection. If a baker is certified by the board of health, they are most likely insurance carriers also and can be liable themselves. Thats all.

OK! ya know what! this is not the time nor place to think "who's right" or "who's wrong" This is Jen's thread and she was asking. Opinions for her were stated and hopfully they will be of some help to her. Now you will be brought to your regularly scheduled program.--

Be about it
We were originally having our rehearsal dinner at the Tavern, and she specifically said we weren't allowed to bring a cake in from another source unless it was board certified. So they do the same thing that the new conference center does. Guess they have to cover their tail, but it can be a nuisance for consumers like us.

Yes actually. I completely understand it. I have heard all the mumbo jumbo too. But, in actuallity they have a good reason. Not to mention they are a HUGE arse chain all over the world.

Actually that is how the Broome Howard Inn is also. We were gonna get a cake for the bridal shower, with some chocolate covered strawberries on it, and stuff..and they told us the same.

But , yea, its a PITA sometimes.

For Craps Sake WC! I was pointing out that jeneisen IS concerned with that so if this person IS NOT certified, she WOULD care.

Bury your issues with me already or deal with them/me via PM for crying out loud. I was pointing out that issue FOR jeneisen; not you.

Does anyone know of any bakeries in either Waldorf, Calvert, St. Marys, etc. that does wedding cakes. They must be certified through the board of health and not done out of a home. I am having a hard time finding a place to get my wedding cake. I have been to Sugar Shack and I am waiting on a price, but I want more options. Can anyone help?

Yes, Jeneva does have good cakes. On one occasion, the icing tasted off.
