Ball Joints

Turned out Summit wouldn't get them shipped to me from Moog until 5/20. No telling what the transit time would be. Since I will be working on this on a "time available" basis, getting the parts sooner is better than later. I ended up buying from Amazon and paying $8.00 more than Summit, but the parts should be in on Friday.

We have a Prime account, and rarely have to pay for shipping. If I need it next it is usually only a few dollars to add next day shipping as well. Rockauto has high shipping cost, however they have the most extensive amount of parts, parts are 90% of the time in stock, and their catalog makes picking out choices easy. I will usually cross reference the part numbers to check pricing on other venues.

Good luck with the project, I have done both and the riveted ones are a major PITA. Press in ones are not much better. At least it is easier to put the riveted ones back in.

So the part number that every site said was the right part for my truck was NOT the right part for my truck.
Bought the replacement control arms from Amazon.com because they were the fastest to ship and lowest price (after Summit). Got them in on 5/20. Took off both control arms from the truck. Put the new control arm up and it fit neatly outside the mounting brackets on the frame. DOH! Immediately did the online return paperwork with Amazon.com. Money refunded the next day, parts picked up from my porch 2 days later.

Back to the internet. Found a thread on a chevy forum where it gave me the right part number. Summit had them in stock. Ordered 2 @ 29.97 each for complete control arms w/ ball joint and bushings installed. Left shipped that night. Right suddenly went on backorder to 5/26, then 6/2 then 6/10 so I called them today. Do you have them in stock, when will you actually get them, etc. They called MOOG while on the phone with me and MOOG was now "HOPING" to get them to Summit on 6/13. That's not going to work for me.

Back to the internet. Found a site that claimed to have them in stock. Called. Yep, 2 on the shelf. Nope, won't match Summit's price, even though their website says they will, but since they are still over $20.00 cheaper than their next competitor and they actually have it in stock, I paid the extra $7.00. Part will ship today and the guy said I should get it tomorrow. Called back to Summit and cancelled the remaining portion of my order.

Control arms installed. Grease gun failed. Went and bought a new one, but ran out of light. Gonna grease the ball joints tonight and then drop off tomorrow for an alignment and will hopefully be back on the road, good to go, by tomorrow night. Now to find out who has the cheapest alignment deal in Charlotte Hall.

Sweet deal, bet you saved a good chunk of change also. Might be one of the next things I invest in is a DIY alignment kit. Truck needs it way more often than it should with all the abuse it gets.
