Baptism

My son is 9 years old, and announced this weekend that he wants to be baptized. Upon further conversation with him, I have learned that he does not want to attend church, but he wants to "seal the confirmation that he's a Christian."

How can I go about getting my son baptized, and not have to join (or him join) any particular church?

I've been ordained, and can baptise people...

Would he like to be baptised in the Bay!??

You could get ordained online and Baptize him yourself.

Are you trying to get kicked out of the religion forum? I asked a very serious question here.

Am serious... I've baptised all of my kids, one of my nephews.. and the list goes on.

Besides if he doesn't want to proclaim a church, would it matter who baptizes him??

Baptized as what?

I'd say it matters.

If someone wants to be baptized as a christian - even a non-denominational christian - they probably will not be looking for a wiccan, voodoun, spaghetti-monster, mystic, new-age, buddhist, or hindi cleric to do the baptizing.

like I said.. You think I don't understand.. I do.

Much more then anyone on here thinks.

He siad he wants to be baptised as a christian with NO church affiliation. Which in my mind would include the non-denominational churches.. who would you suggest?

I'm going to ask him now. Here is his response, and he's typing it out himself:

I want to be baptised so that the Lord knows I have faith in him.

the lord, just like santa knows everything already, so you don't need to go through any extra steps if YOU believe.

I think that?

I don't even know you. I have no idea what you understand or don't. You said something to the effect that it doesn't matter who baptizes him.

I said it did.

If I knew, I would have suggested it.

I'm one of the "mean" mommies who never allowed my children to believe in Santa.

I don't go to church, but I have raised my children to believe in Jesus. My eldest has become an agnostic, but now my youngest is wanting to be baptized. The least I can do is to find out how to do this. He's a very studious child (as is my daughter) and informed me that he can change his denomination at any time in the future. At this point, he is not denominational, and he does not want to attend a non-denominational church. He wants to be baptized. He's a funny little guy. When we say our prayer at bedtime he says "Ahmen" and I say "Aymen"...so we say it twice.

If I walked into the church across the street, would the minister/priest/pastor/cleric baptize him because he wants that, or will they try to "sell" him something that he does not need/want?

seriously, find the passage in the bible about praying in your closet vs. praying in public, maybe that will help him see he doesn't need the approval of the church to believe. If that doesn't work, then your best bet is to do what Bob suggested, get a nondenomiantional pastor

yeah yeah
It depends on the church and the pastor. It depends on what the churches view on baptisim is according to their "law". And meaning law, I dont mean- by governing law- but how they run things at their church. Let me get back to you- after I go to the band meeting tonight- Pastor Stan will be there- and I will ask him what you are asking....and get his opinion. He is very open and doesnt go by the "law" book on anything practically.

So I will get back to you.

And Midnight is right- he doesnt need the "approval" of anyone to believe in God. If he has chosen to accept God, then God knows this. The realationship between him and God is all that really matters in the end. Baptisim is more of an outward confession of faith to the church/world.

Hence the reason that we had Ireland dedicated- because we wanted her to be able to make the choice one day- as your little man is doing- and choose to be baptised. We aren't sealing her fate- and nor could we anyway. That has already been determined. It is up to her on her relationship that she wants to have with God- and if she feels the need to be baptised as a outward confession of her faith- then she can when she feels compelled.

I don't have that passage available. Can you please share?

He had some kind of "epiphany" that he won't tell me about while I was gone this weekend. I will not question that, and he has always had Jesus in his heart. He feels the need to go a step forward, and this is one thing I will never say "NO" to.

:larry: There is no rule in the Bible that a priest or Holy person has to do the Baptising so you can do it yourself if you want.

Just submerge him in water (swimming pool will work) and say the words,

I baptise thee in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy spirit.

And there it is. :howdy:

Jesus taught others to Baptise... I have to admit... this time JPC is right. If you are a believer you can Baptise others....
