The BF used to hang out there on occasion after softball - years and years ago. Still goes there once in a while. Anyhoo long story short, there was a Betty Russell in the obits recently and I was wondering if it was the same Betty Russell. "Familiar" because someone would probably have to know the owners to know if it was the same person or not.Hmm. Depends on what you mean by "familiar"....
I never knew it existed until he met friends out there and threatened to take me w/him. Then he found out I like dive bars so he went w/o me.I used to play horse shoes there a LONG time ago. It smelled like cat
Came down here in the late 60s with a buddy of mine's band. All I remember was it was Tall Timbers, stage and big dance floor in front. Think Ken said that place was turned into a house. Came down a couple times, last time the lead singer didn't like what the crowd(sailors) was requesting and said 'Bite my crank, mateys'...and then the fun began..Tall Timbers (back when it was a night club with bands), Tall Timbers Tavern,

I remember several of those, although I didn't go to them all. Oakwood Lodge did have the delicious Black Diamond steaks. Gridiron had them for awhile. I fortunately have the recipe for that. That's one of the only bars left of the once very many here on 249. I once owned the largest of them all..but there were a half dozen at least...
Chief's, Tall Timbers (back when it was a night club with bands), Tall Timbers Tavern, Oakwood Lodge, Elsie D's, Old Country Inn, HappyLand, Swann's

I LOVE Chiefs. It's exactly my kind of place; good food, ice cold Blue Moon w/the orange slice thingy, nice drive to get there from my house, good comfortable local crowd, the waitresses always remember us, it's dark enough to get a good view of the stars on the way out - just the most perfect place in the world. That's one of the only bars left of the once very many here on 249.
