Why is this a police matter? Two people have a contract related dispute. How about settling it like adults OR you sue each other in Small Claims Court.

I think it was more meant along the lines of being home alone with a strange, angry man on your doorstep. Not to dispute the contract (or lack thereof)

She could just shut the door? Obviously if he started saying things we could construe as violent. But "feeling" afraid because the neighbors are not home is a little much for me. People are allowed to get mad with each other that does not constitute a call to the police...IMO.

I am very glad I read this post. That guy came to our house last spring asking if we wanted a stump removed. My husband took the card and said we'd get back to him. I just came across the business card last week again and was considering calling him. I typically don't answer the door when I'm home during the day by myself and sometimes just talk to the person out the window instead. I may be overly paranoid because I watch criminal minds and other crime shows though...can't help but think they probably get their inspiration from real crimes.

Well waiting for him to pull a straight razor out of his pocket and him slicing her throat, that would be considered a little too late to call (in my opinion).
So where would you draw the line?
Personally, in this situation (granted she didn't know at the time) I'd bet the police would have been very familiar with the person on the porch, and would have deemed it a worthy call.

I agree with you, it's not being paranoid, it's being safe. Why would a woman home alone just sling the door wide open to a stranger? I don't and never have.

This guy stopped by my house one day when I was home alone (I was expecting the orkin guy so I answered without paying attention) and thank goodness I had the dog out he rushed the door and the guy. Stepped waaaay back ..he asked if I needed work done, I politely declined and he got a litttle pissy and said he could clear the pile from my front yard, and I declined again..the dog started getting annoyed and I made a big show of holding him back..so he stepped back again and left. I did not feel safe the dude gave me a bad vibe..come to find out he is a drug addict (so's dad knows him) and isn't really insured.
Thank goodness for my pup. He made me feel safer. Anyway sorry you got took. Hopefully people will see this thread and know to just not answer the door.
