During a virtual Harris campaign call with Voto Latino, Biden took a swipe at former President Trump's rally in Madison Square Garden, which made headlines after insult comedian Tony Hinchiffe made jokes mocking different ethnic groups, with one joke referring to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage."

"The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters," Biden said.

It may have been intended to mock, but it’s close to the truth. PR is struggling with garbage. It’s a legitimate concern. PR has gotten worse over the years in terms of poverty

The fact that the 'ricans b*tched, whined, and moaned about the US' military presence in the form of Rosy Roads (at one time, the largest military base in the world) and the bombing range certainly didn't help. Even though the US, under the Paris Accords is responsible for defending Puerto Rico.

I think the Army has a post in Rico; Ft Buchanan, as I recall, and that's only because the "friends-with-one-sided-benefits" that is Puerto Rico has a National Guard.

I was actually reading about that. I don’t know if it’s still there, but there used to be a huge facility near Boston when I lived there. That’s where we dumped our construction waste.

But I also read that some jurisdictions frown on it, because of the leaking of metals and toxins. So I don’t know what they’ll do.

I do wonder how many populous islands deal with waste.

Hawaii is having that same issue.. They were thinking about sending back to the main land but that wasn't approved. I believe there is only 1 land fill in all of Hawaii and it is almost full per state regulations.
