No, I used to have an '89 EX500 which is really the same kind of bike. I liked it. It doesn't have outragous power but enough to have fun on.

Oh ok! My bf is taking the bike class next weekend with CSM, and
he has been looking at the 250's, 500s, and 650's. He is looking to
go used since this is his first bike. :faint: <~~~~lil worried.

The 500, I think, is a great starter bike. Like I said, it does have power but it isn't outragous. Its pretty small and lightweight and it handles great. He should ckeck out some info on it. Then he could always go bigger once he gets used to riding.

Thanks for the info!
Hope you enjoy your bike!
I would hope your picking it up on a truck or trailer tonight?

He's smart to start off with a smaller displacement. My first bike was a 305 Kawasaki.
What style of bike is he interested in?

Ok! This is why I get scared...
He likes the 250R because of the gas mileage, and
he commutes from Calvert to Waldorf. From Rte. 4
to 301 all the way in. That's what I am worried about,
because 301 is such a busy road, ppl do not see bikes.
He also likes the 500R and the 650R, and he just started
looking at Honda CBR 600's. :lalala: Not really thrilled! Just
worried...

The answer to the question is "sport bikes" AKA crotch rockets.

Both the 250 and 500 Kawasaki will keep up with traffic on any highway but don't have the instant acceleration of the 600's

I'm picking it up with a trailer. I sold my other bike back in '97 and that was the last time I rode one so I didn't want to ride it back home. I'm sure that it will come back in no time at all.
