And as mentioned in the other thread.. research numbers.. If you ride a loud bike, one with modified exhaust, your are 37% , more likekly to crash. That in itself is evidence that quiet bikes are safer.

That statistic reeks of hidden information. Does it mention that people who modify their bikes/cars tend to ride/drive them more dangerously? I.e. someone who rides a bone stock bike be it cruiser or superbike is probably less likely to ride as aggressively as someone who tweaks and modifies his/her ride to enhance it's performance. I.e again...someone driving a Ford Taurus is probably less likely to drive as aggressivley as someone driving a streetrod. Further more, most motorcycle crashes are a result of the bike running into the car. The car pulls out infront of the motorcycle because they didn't "SEE" them not because they didn't "Hear" them there. I for one, don't believe exhaust is or isn't safety equipment. It's purely a performance item.
In regards to sound/noise level, I'ld rather hear my 76' Shovelhead thumpin at the street light than the latest hip hop idol or someones cell phone conversation.
My sound is their noise and their sound is my noise. But my sound has more amptitude so I am the winner!

You're better off wearing a white helmet over loud pipes for safety..

You hear it over and over, you see stickers, the dealerships push it (or use to) yet they can provide no evidence or fact supporting the claim.

It's all fun and games..

Besides it's not just the Harley people anymore. the loudest most obnoxious bike I've been near was a VTX 1800 I believe.. Stupid loud, and the person on it thought he was cool!

Did anyone ever take into consideration hearing the car that's getting ready to drive up your butt when you're stopped at a stop light, or waiting to take a left turn on 235??

Excessive noise from loud pipes/no mufflers on motorcycles is prohibited by State Law and will be strictly enforced.

As will many otherwise less enforced laws be given more attention during the bikeweek celebration. Good time to get more ticket dollars and that's what it's all about any-hoo.

Thought I read a post in here about Sturgis..

Cops were using the pipes for a reason to stop bikers, then once they got them stopped had probable cause for other things, like road side searches.

Gove a LOT of tickets out, much more for then just loud pipes, possession, open warrants etc.. and even got to confiscate several bikes in the process.
