Bike rear-ended on 235

Yesterday at around 6:30pm, I passed by an accident near the intersection of 235 and 4. A cruiser had been rear-ended by a car in the turn lane to go toward the bridge. The rear of the bike was wedged under the bumper of the car and the seat/subframe was bent up and forward. Anyone here? Hope the rider made out OK.

I stopped at that accident cuz I thought it was a friends bike. Though it wasn't my friend that was involved, I can say that no one was hurt. The bike most likely will be totalled, but the rider was thrown clear and hardly scratched. She was wearing the proper gear...helmet, nice thick padded leather jacket and an orange vest. Bike was a Kawasaki Vulcan. Rider was female as was the driver that hit her.

I started walking away after the police arrived only to see/hear another accident right there. Young female must have been gawking at the m/c accident and plowed into the van in front of her...only she hit that sumbeotch HARD!!! I don't understand why she would have been going that damn fast in that traffic with police lights already flashing.

I then asked the police officer if there was anything I could do to help till more officers arrived, to help the situation and to keep my insurance rates from going up any further that day.

Thanks from all of us.

I saw the aftermath of a 3 car accident in Hughesville yesterday about 4:30. Chuck Co. cop rearended a Chrysler 300 (current body style) and pushed it into the trailer hitch of the truck in front of it, busting the car's radiator. Crown Vic was crunched pretty good. Based on what I saw, I THINK that the 300 and truck stopped along with everybody in front of them heading north when the light changed at 231. Cop was going too fast/not paying attention/tailgating/whatever and wasn't able to stop in time and smashed into the 300.

I went by there, saw the wreck. Since the cops were present and no bodies laying around, I didn't stop. Glead to hear they're OK
Reminded me of the demise of my first bike. Lady rear ended me while I was stopped waiting to turn left. Bike stuck in her grill till she started backing up in an attempt to leave the scene.
A Kawasaki KZ-305, real screamer  Rode it from Haleiva on the North Shore to the dealer in Honolulu with the rear wheel all bent up.

I wonder how many accidents around here are caused by tailgaters? Bet it's over 50%

I believe yesterdays accident was caused by said female driver wanting to be where the then unseen motorcycle was, from the other lane. She tried diving into the right hand turn lane, and THOUGHT she had an open spot where the motorcycle was. Must have been watching her rear view mirror when she hit the stopped motorcycle. Rear wheel of the bike was wedged under the bumper and the tail light was stuck in the grill under the crinkled hood.

Think I might add another set of Hyper-Lights to the back of my bike..

I think had she been hugging the outside dotted white line instead of in the center of the lane, she would have been seen, or had a better chance of being seen. That's where I ride. Keeps cars from cutting in front of me when you take away that little bit of extra space. I do the same thing when I'm in the truck. Hell, I've been doing it on the other side of the bridge coming south, where the vehicles are supposed to yield when coming from under the bridge, and try merging instead...I cross partially into their lane to take away that extra little bit of space that they think is enough to allow them to "merge".

Agree, and if you hug EITHER side of the lane, gives a car room to squeeze by if they don't see you until it's too late.. But I almost always stay to the left and hug the line.

Female rider?? Know what kind of bike?

Dark blue Kawasaki Vulcan. Attractive mid 40ish- 50 (I hope) long "salt and pepper" hair in a ponytail.

I was taught that your azz should be in the same part of the lane it would be if you were sitting in a car, left of center.

I was out on 234 a few weeks ago, passed part of a line of cars, slid into the space in front of an SUV. Some ijit was there on his bike hugging the right side of the lane. :yikes: Couldn't see him till I cleared the SUV and was ducking back into the line. We were both suprised
Hate to think what would have happened if I'd been driving something wider.
