Don't dismiss the idea of a scooter. One of the ladies in our riding club has a 400cc Suzuki Bergman. Runs on the interstate with no problems, LOTS of storage space, Weighs about 450 lbs, great gas milage (60+mpg), weather protection like a $20k touring bike and an automatic transmission.

Another female here, I have a boulevard C-50, i thinks it like 850cc, fit a female pretty good. Easy to handle. I also took the safety class on the Rebel. The class saved my life. If you need insurance give GEICO Motorcycle a call. My rate is 163.50 for a year.

I used to have GEICO insurance for my bike, but found Progressive to be less expensive.

I just paid my bike insurance. It dropped from $535 a year to $399 because the little bump I put into a car in our parking lot is over 3 years old now.

Mine started out at $400 a year for my bike. Car and truck are about $1000 a year for both. GEICO.

Honda Shadow 700cc
Definitely not a 250 Rebel by any means. My last bike was a 1100 Shadow. Enjoyed it for a couple years until I bought a Harley this year. The deal was too good to pass up.

Sportster Hugger worked for me

I started out on a Harley Sportster Hugger because it sat very comfortably for me at 5'4". The weight of it worried me at first, but because of it being lower, I found the weight to not be a problem. I stayed on it for 5 years before moving up to my Road King. Other female friends, however, preferred the Honda Rebel with the 600ish engine though....

Ever thought about the Buell Blast? It's about 360lbs and a 500cc thumper. Great bike for the test too.
