It is part of nature for some males to distract the female in some way to give them the ability to do their deed. I watch roosters find a food item, give a clucking signal to the hens that he has food, the hen(s) run over to him and while she/they are distracted by the food he jumps on her/their back. Every animal has their own way and some rely on hormones in the females body to get cooperation. Bill had probably tried the drugs on his wife to practice before doing it to a victim.

In spiders, nuptial gifts in the form of prey are restricted to a few species from two families belonging to the superfamily Lycosoidea: Pisauridae and Trechaleidae. In both families, the male courts the female by offering a prey wrapped in silk and mating occurs while the female consumes the gift.

It does seem to appear that the male offers a gift of sorts, usually food, then gets rewarded. Interesting how going out to dinner is a popular date excursion hmmm.

Well, he shouldn't have been arrested, let alone convicted in the first place. A lesser person would have been ruined.
It takes a lot of fortitude to continue on with the life you had before regardless of what the masses think.
It was an opportunity to ruin somebody that left the plantation, he fought back and won. Now he wants his life back, and needs to earn a living.

He should be a hero.
