Black Widows

I've got one living under my porch....comes out whenever we come near a climatus that she's built her web on. If we don't kill this thing will we have a whole herd of widow's running around our house? What's the best way to take em out? She comes out just long enough to see that there's no food in her web and then she's gone again. And she is FAST! I don't want to get bitten but I also don't want the problem to multiply....any advice?

I caught an MPT special years ago about black widows. I believe it took place somewhere in Maryland and told the story of an outbreak of these things in the 70's or 80's. They like to crawl up into shoes that lay on the porch. Apparenty a few children had died from the black widows and the community rose up. They literally lit torches and hunted these things at night, burning them until they were nearly extinct.

aren't their a lot of them living in PG in subsidized housing and welfare?

oh, sorry my bad, you were taliking about spiders.
(the hair spray and egg sack confused me....)

crabcake

But wait, there's more...
When my house up there was first built, I had a bunch of black widows outside around the foundation of the house. I had Guardian Pest Control come out monthly for about a year and that seemed to take care of the problem and ward off any further sightings. Given you're dealing with a potentially deadly spider, I don't think I'd rely on some over-the-counter spray to rid you of the problem. Let a professional come in and take care of it. Just b/c you haven't seen others doesn't mean they aren't there. :nono: They like dark places, so look around inside your garage, under your deck, beneath the rain spout trays, etc. :really:

You can use the Hairspray and a lighter for the ones you can see.

For future problems I would say but some Praying Mantis Egg Cases and let them go around you house.

A ferocious predator, it will attack just about any insect in its path.
One case will yield approximately 50-200

3 egg cases $12.50

Watch it they bite, not hard but it does feel weird. We had one living on our deck in our old apartment and it liked to chew on me.

:yay: Good luck let us know how it goes for you.

I hate bugs, but praying mantises freak me out even more. I'd be afraid they'd attack my dog. :jameo:

They are just about the only bug that I like. Very pretty to look at, and if they are eating all the damn spiders they are okay by me.

When the hubby and I build a house we are going to buy a crap load of cases and let them go. Maybe have some come live in the house with us to catch the bugs that try to hide inside.

I don't know what it is that I don't like about them. Maybe that they look like little green people. :lmao:
