Your buddy who tracks storms that hadn't formed? :killingme

He actually knows what he is talking about unlike some of these other generic forecasts. The coast guard has much better forecasting equipment than Bob Ryan or these other TV forecaster.

Trust me we will get 36 inches +

Pretty sure they don't actually have any "equipment" and just an FYI, there is no such thing as "forecasting equipment".
They get info from NASA, NOAA and other government agencies and make their predictions.

Right. The only equipment they would have is a PC to run computer models on after getting data from other sources. At the most, the CG might have a Doppler radar somewhere which is not a forecaster.

yes they do. The Coast guard actually has their own weather balloons they launch to take measurements for their computer models. They don't relie on data from other sources.

I have a weather balloon too.
If I take it outside and it becomes wet, it's raining and if it turns white it's snowing. If I turn it loose and it goes sideways it's windy, straight up it's calm.

:killingme How does a balloon predict the future?

The coasts guards baloons go way up into the atmosphere and are loaded with sofisticated sensors for modeling weather.

Their ballons are a lot nicer than the baloon you bought from Walmart.

 Yeah, altitude, temp, humidity and wind direction.
