Blone Density Test?

I believe they scan your heel. I was at a seminar where they were doing it, but I didn't have it done. It looked pretty simple.

How's it done?
Central DXA: The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) recommends a BMD test of the hip and spine by a central DXA machine to diagnose osteoporosis. DXA stands for dual energy x-ray absorptiometry. When testing can’t be done on the hip and spine, NOF suggests a central DXA test of the radius bone in the forearm.

Other less effective tests are -
* pDXA (peripheral dual energy x-ray absorptiometry)
* QUS (quantitative ultrasound)
* QCT (quantitative computed tomography)
* pQCT (peripheral quantitative computed tomography)

Pretty simple....had one done a while back when I found out that I have degenerative everything disease running wild in my family(thanks mom)

Oh....It skipped me and went straight for my sister :biggrin:

oh....I'm supposed to be upset because I love my (crazy)sister and I don't want her to be in any pain at all :cds:

If you mean the DEXA scan (bone density test) it's real easy and basically like getting an x-ray. You lie on a table while this scanner is above you and it just scans over you. It only takes about 5-10 minutes.

When should you get tested for osteoporsis? I'm 42.

Are there treatments if it's caught early?
